Makin' good moonshine is quite an art. It takes lots of time and practice before one can whip up a good batch that sells.

Homemade Irish Whiskey is known as Poteen. The 'wash' is usually made with potatoes and barley with sometimes yeast added to the water. It is left to ferment usually in a warm place. It then has to be distilled. It is a highly illegal and dangerous practice. The still is likely to explode and seriously injure anyone within twenty feet of it. It is a large metal container into which the strained wash is put. This container has what is known as a 'worm' attached to it. It is a coiled copper tube that may be twenty feet long and usually goes through a cooling bath of water. As the wash boils, the steam exits through the worm and turns into liquid. This is the first run. When completed, if it is not pure, the dregs are removed from the still and the liquid returned and distilled again. The more distilling that is done, the purer the alcohol that finally emerges. The test used to be to place a few drops on a metal spoon and to light it. After the liquid burned away, the spoon was wiped and if there was any carbon on the spoon, the liquid was distilled once more. Homemade whiskey, Poteen, Moonshine or whatever you call it has caused many deaths and in particular blindness..............

The basic ingredients:
corn meal
sugar
water
yeast
malt
The basic process:
Mix all ingredients together in a large container. After mixing, move the mixture, called "mash," into a still and leave it to ferment. How quickly this process occurs depends on the warmth of the mash.
Heat the mash to the point of vaporization at 173 degrees. The mash will produce a clear liquid, often the color of dark beer. You must watch this process with careful attention.
Trap vapor using a tube or coil. The vapor will be transferred into a second, empty container. The resulting condensation is the moonshine. It is then ready to drink or sell.
Keep mash in container. It is now called "slop." Add more sugar, water, malt, and corn meal and repeat the process.
Repeat the process up to eight times before replacing the mash.

Put aside the fact that its illegal for a moment and consider the fact that unless you follow the recipe exactly, controlling hte temp and the process every second; you are just as likely to end up with one of the other, non edible, toxic forms of alcohol.
Ditch the idea of Moonshine (distilled) and go for the legal safe version.
Learn how to make a good fruit wine, then use Tokay yeast. With love, attention, careful control of the heat and so on you can easily get it up past 16% alcohol by volume.
When you rack off the brew top it up to the gallon with rum or vodka and you're sorted.

Moonshine is what Americans call Poitin. PoitÃn is made in almost all parts of Ireland, but it has a particularly strong association with Gaeltacht areas. It can be made from potatoes but also from numerous vegetable products, always to a traditional recipe. Its taste tends towards a certain roughness, especially to the unaccustomed drinker, and there are a number of cocktails available. Anything mixed with poitin is called a manglam (especially in Connemara). PoitÃn must be taken with caution as its effects can be devastating. In any case making it is an offence, with severe penalties!

I dont know but that crap tastes horrible. A friend of mine went down to Arkansas and brought back some hillbilly moonshine complete with the glass jug and everything. I took a drink and it tasted like I was drinking gasoline. Anyway, this doesnt answer your question so sorry.

Here is a small video clip about Moonshine/Potcheen. http://www.iskratv.com/shorts/clips/cfB/uks010_002.html It doesn,t tell you how to make it though, I would advise you to buy the legal stuff as the homemade Potcheen (in some cases, though not many) can be lethal.

Well,... I CAN - Moon with a shine,.....
But I would have to shave my bunghole first.
Uhmm ,... which kind? to drink or to put in your car?
Coz if it isn't made right, it would be great to run your car with it, but it could well keeel you.
Seriously.
To make it right, there is a diagram in the encyclopedia, just look up "Distilling" that way instead of just reading this, you will get a legitimate list of exactly what you need and what parts to build the "Still" with.
So, if you kill yourself by drinking the stuff, it will only be ;your fault.
If your car blows up,... you could try suing the auto maker, everyone is doing it these days, I hope your car isn't a Ford, you will have to get in line to sue their butts.
