Years ago, probably mid 70's that was true. It was the last tournament prior to the British Open. Most players would take the week prior off to adjust to the time change in the British Isles.
The tournament was moved from Warwick Hills to Atlas Valley CC for a few years and lost it's spot on the tour schedule. I believe for a few years it was sponsored by a local Buick dealership, until Buick jumped in again with both feet, with a new date and moved it back to Warwick Hills.

This is not true. The Buick open at Warwick Hills has a long history of drawing some of the best players in the world. Now if there is any tournament that has to beg players to show up has to be the John Deere Classic.

I disagree with this. This is a tournament that traditionally attracts the big names. Tiger is a spokesperson for Buick, so he shows up Vijay has won it 3 times, so he keeps showing up. Check the leaderboard today. Lots of big names.

far from it. the fact that it is between the british open and pga sometimes hurts the field, but there are plenty of players to fill the field. some conditional players will get in that might not get in a full field event earlier in the year.
