Should we ban any more people from coming in? Operate a closed door policy.
Bear in mind we have an influx of 250,000 new immigrants a year. That's the size of Derby, Cambridge, or Leicester!

It's not that there are too many immigrants... well it is, but it's not JUST that. It's that they're all settling in the bloody place (i.e. the south, particularly London). This situation isn't helped by that hundreds of thousands of Northerners are upping sticks and marching down here as well. The result is that, while places like the North, Wales and Scotland have dwindling populations, the South has more people than it should have had to take, and it's showing. For a start, there are environmental issues; the recent drought would have been no problem in the south at all, if we weren't hugely overcrowded down here, meaning there wasn't enough water to go around. Secondly, one by one all he nice little rural areas and villages are being turned into towns and concreted over, needless to say that's not very environmentally friendly either, but it has an effect on the local population as well, with rising crime rates as we overpopulate even more places.

Britain is the third most crowded country in the EU, but it's the only one not imposing measures to curb immigration. Most EU countries even limit the numbers that can come in from other member states. Britain is full, and if you must let people in at least tell them to go North instead of them all crowding the same bloody space of land. Secondly, we should sign out of the treaty which states we must allow other EU members to stay here. Thirdly, we should actually enforce and control our borders, and that means sending people home, even if they hijacked a plane to get here*.

*Yea, if you would allow me to rant about that, a group of people hijacked a plane, flew here and then claimed asylum, and this week a bloody lefty judge said they could stay here indefinitely! It beggars belief!

How many Brits leave each year to go to live in communities in Spain etc and then don't bother to learn the language or take on board the culture? How many of those still use the NHS and draw pensions? How many of them earn their money from businesses in the UK and then take the cash abroad to support an economy other than their own?
There's a greater threat imo from foreign companies buying British utilities and failing companies and being given massive financial incentives to set up here (which aren't offered to natives, I might add) while at the same time British manufacturing and call centres are farmed out to other countries, than from a few immigrants - some of whom are asylum seekers who would work if they were allowed - who support themselves without recourse to social services even if it's not always legal so tax isn't collected (and that's no different from all the homegrown tax and insurance cheats I meet every day in the retail/service sector); and what can I say about the large swathe of Brits who claim benefits and still have new cars big tvs and a foreign holiday every year?
Oooooh.
Think I might have lost my thread a bit there. Damn wine.

Clasair where do you get the idea that immigrants put in Billions? if that was the case theyd not be immigrants and their countries of origin would be in prosperity.

This country is shelling out alot more than immgrants are putting in. Most send the money they earn back home and most of that is cash in hand so where the taxes that everyone else is paying to keep the NHS running and the emergency services ?

This countries sinking and its sinking fast. You dont see the Germans or the French taking in the amount of immigrants this country does and whys that COS WE PAY THE MOST BENEFITS along with free health care and housing.

It time to close our borders and take stock of how this countries sitting, till happens and changes are introducted we'll be seen as a soft country for bleeding dry.

If your facts are correct, you should demand your government put it to a vote in parliament. Set aside the left-wing bleeding heart liberals, and the politically correct. If the man on the street says Britain is getting too crowded and you are losing your own culture, you have to stand up and be counted! Canada brings in about 250,000 per year, but thank God we have lots of space here, although most want to come and live in our 3 biggest cities: Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. Vancouver is more like Hong Kong than other cities in China! If anyone asks what a Canadian is like nowadays, it means nothing...a Canadian has no more rights other than voting than anyone who lands at any of our airports. We have no cultural identity. If you are East Indian, and qualify to join our national police force, the famous RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) you can demand to wear your turbin as a religious symbal!

Britain was so nice and clean when I went there in 1970...now it looks like 3rd world in places, as these new immigrants to your country still havent figured out what a trash can is for!

I'm curious as to how long we can keep up this pretence of being a free and happy country that everyone thinks we are.
If this government doeas not do something to deter these people from crossing severel other free countries just to get here then british nationals are going to get really pi***d off...next there will be street riots not due to racism but more to doe with people struggling like hell just to spongers getting free everything and sitting on there a**e! I for one am thinking of getting out of britain and becoming an immigrant!

There were 714,000 births in the UK in 2004 so I think you are getting worried over nothing.

Also the economy would be totally and utterly knackered if we operated a closed door policy to immigrants to the UK.

I've come back in again to read other responses and it amazes me.

You lot have absolutely no idea how the British economy works. Without immigration our economy would be totally and absolutely up sh*t street.

Jesus, you lot really have got no idea what is going on in the real world. London in particular would be on its knees without immigrants slogging their guts out for you.

Yep you should ... you can't do anything about people coming from the EU countries, but that's enough ... all those from outside the EU for whatever reason should be repatriated post haste!! I wonder why it is that both Britain and the U.S. have such a lax immigration policy? Since Blair and Bush are such chums, wonder what they have cooked up? It all looks very fishy to me ... enough to make me subscribe to some conspiracy theories ... maybe they have a bet going about who can sell their country down the tube the quickest? :)

If you want to remain as England and not some third world Islamic nation, then yes, you should ban immigration. God Save The Queen!

yes, we obviosuly have to control this.

I have an idea, immigrants or refugees that are fleeing from a country should be welcome when they follow the following criteria:

1) they earn their keep
2) when the country is safe they return

A way to implement this is to provide short term VISA's, so they msut renew the applicaiton. If they are misbehaving it is then much easier to dispose of (to put it simply). Anyone behaving, for example working for a living, making honest money, paying their bills will of course be welcome to remain in the country until their home country becomes safe once more.

Im all for helping these people, and do beleive people should to somedegree have choice of what country they live in, however I am fed up of apying taxes for these people. If they are willing to work to feed their families like I am then its fine and fair, but otherwise no.
