Give the puppies 2 weeks before taking them to the shelter and if you must take them to the shelter take them to a no kill shelter cause at a normal one they will put them to sleep after 1 week.

Depends which type you go to. We have many humane shelters in our area which are no kill (unless behaviorally unadoptable). I got my darling girl from one of these when she was 8 wks. old, at a PetSmart adoption day. I believe the owner might have let them know she intended to do this before the pups were born, but I don't know for sure. The shelter took them and cared for them for a week or two, then took them to an adoption day and they were all adopted within hrs. (They only had 4.) The city run ones are more likely to kill than the Humane Society run ones and other private ones. Puppies are more likely to be adopted than older. Contact the shelters around you and talk to them. See if you can find one that will do what you can live with. That's really the only way you'll know. Laws and procedures vary from area to area and the number of animals in their facility awaiting placement, likely dictates how soon dogs would need to be euthanized.

Some shelters have a period of time, and others, called "no-kill" shelters, will keep them pretty much forever. The only problem with the no-kill shelters, according to our vet, is that they are overcrowded, and with so many animals in residence, they do not get cared for as well as the regular put-em-down places.
Sometimes, the most kind and humane thing to do is to end an animal's life, sadly enough.
That's why people should be more careful about letting their dogs have puppies if they won't know what to do with them after they are born. Neuter your pets, please.

If they do not find a home for them they do put them to sleep, which is unethical. I am sorry but you did not spayed your dog and now your pushing the responsibility off on tax payers. That is awful, if you can not afford them then you should take better care of your dog. I am not mean but animals have feeling too!
Think about it before you do it?

I agree w/horsielover77..Take your puppies to a no-kill shelter. Animal control shelters don't keep animals very long. Here in Mass., we have the Animal Rescue League...a great group. The SPCA, at least here in Mass. doesn't operate no-kill shelters, believe it or not.
Good luck

It all depends on your shelter and state. Usually they keep them about a week, but if you find a humane society they find homes for them. Try calling pet stores too.

Usually puppies go fast from a shelter. People prefer a pup to an older dog for some reason. They most likely will find good homes- Be careful if you sell on your own. Sometimes people use these to train attack/fighting dogs. So, now the main question??????? Are you going to have your dogs spayed?? Please, please, please, please do it????????????? : ) : )

Depends on the individual shelter and how crowded they are. and of course if you dump 12 pups on them they will BECOME crowded.
I doubt you need the spay lecture Hugh? so I'll skip it
