Plants contain chlorophyll, which absorbs the other colours in sunlight to get the energy to make carbohydrates(and give us oxygen as by-product). The green component gets reflected, thus grass and other plants are green when healthily metabolizing.

coz that's how it was made ... idea for your next question is why is the sky blue or why do rain clouds look dark.
how come you have the time to think about the colour of grass when the world may end at midnight and you probably need more gel in your hair
