It is best to do it when they are about 5 months old, they won't have went into heat yet and they won't be pregnant yet. It is more dangerous when they are younger and they can get pregnant starting about 6 months so you want to do it before then.

Shelters have moved in the last ten years to spay (and neuter) kittens when they are eight weeks and/or two pounds. There have been studies that this does no harm to the cats. I have seen shelter kittens that young and the females are back playing with their littermates within 24 hours. The younger the easier on the cats.
That said, a lot of vets still hang on to doing it later. They don't have experience on young kittens and it is like doing microsurgery and they are uncomfortable with it.
The problem with waiting that I have seen or heard of is that since kittens are born in the spring and summer the five or six month date falls around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and it just gets lost in the other priorities of the holiday season. A good reason for doing it in the fall.
A five month old kitten can have a first heat cycle. Then it may be too late if the kitten gets out and gets pregnant. It's like a 12-14 year old with a pregnancy. They are not fully grown or ready to have their bodies drained with a pregnancy.
So I would find a humane society clinic that does the spaying and not let a veterinary practice dictate when it is done. The private practice will also charge a lot more.
You may think "I don't want my precious baby to have a 'cheapie' surgery." Actually if you need heart surgery you should find a surgeon who does the greatest number of surgeries successfully. The clinics do a great number of these surgeries.

Our policy is that so long as they have at least two sets of vaccines to build their immunity- this would put them at 3 months. Schedule an appointment with your vet and ask questions. Ask the vet what age they recommend and why- if they don't answer to your liking or say because that's what they do, find another one. Ask your vet how many surgeries have they done on kittens under 6 months of age and are they comfortable doing it. We spay our adoption kittens at 5-7 weeks of age and they are absolutely fine. The younger the better- they recover quicker- they literally don't know that they had surgery. Just make sure that they give you some pain meds- any surgery is painful and the pain after the surgery is extremely important to handle. There is not a lot of pain meds for cats- we use buprenorphine aka Buprenex.

You could probably get her spayed now if you really wanted to.But I would wait until about 3 or 4 months old.

Cats become sexually mature around six months, or 24 weeks. Most vets recommend your cat be altered (neutered or spayed) at that time. I suppose it could be sooner, but check with your vet first.
