His last finished symphony was the Ninth. He began work on the Tenth, but died before it was finished.

No one can know that for sure. He wrote many pieces. He had many works that were unfinished. It is hard to determine one last piece. He often worked on many pieces simultaneously. He was a perfectionist and often did not complete his works if he could not get it perfect in his own opinion.

Sonata quasi una Fantasia, Biamonti 213, was a piano piece that emerged and was performed this year, by pianist Massimo Anfossi. It was said to have been the the most significant , Beethoven, new piano piece to emerge in 180 years.

I love Beethoven... my favorites are the symphonies (4,5,6,9) and the sonatas (Appassoniata, Pathetique, Moonlight.)

I believe the last piece he wrote was the final movement of his 13th String Quartet in 1826. I seem to remember he was replacing it from a previous version.
