Obviously, Muay Thai is superior. Boxing only trains you to use the fists and has rules restricting elbows and other "illegal blows" while Muay Thai doesn't have these rules and trains in kicks, elbows, knees, etc.
If you want to show him some good proof of this, watch this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSiE9Ed8jW4
In this video a Muay Thai fighter fights a normal boxer. The normal boxer literally gets massacred by the Muay Thai fighter. Since boxing doesn't train you to take shin kicks and whatnot the boxer has no way of defending himself against the Muay Thai fighter's attacks.

I've trained in jiujitsu and some Muay Thai. I fought in a boxing match last week and came away from it thinking that it's pretty pointless to stand there and simply throw punches, disregarding all the other weapons at your disposal: elbows, knees, shins. What a waste! Western boxing is a stylized sport, not a combat system. If we're talking similar weight and experience, the Muay Thai fighter is going to win unless the boxer gets very lucky.

human beings desire to have very black and white solutions. while human beings ask, "what's the version between Muay Thai and Shotokan" they attempt to discover some thing that the only has that the different does not. What makes one extra useful than the different is definitely the circumstances. the type of training Muay Thai gyms do builds sturdiness into their warring parties and that they are used to sparring all out with out pads on the same time as being allowed to leg kicks, elbow, clinch and knee. i've got self assurance it is extra of the educational technique than the artwork itself that makes MT warring parties so formidable. there is not any rationalization why a Shotokan fighter can not do certainly one of those coaching, yet as an entire, that's what MT is universal for. regardless of if, there are cases while it is not suitable to kick, punch, knee or elbow somebody, yet quite you desire to easily administration them. Shotokan has suggestions for this, on the same time as MT does not. that's what I recommend by ability of it relies upon on the area grew to become into to this is extra useful. This all being reported, Shotokan is a extra finished artwork than Muay Thai for the reason that Muay Thai is definitely taught completely as a interest. @Callsign: superb movies... yet that 0.33 one grew to become into bulls#it, that guy could desire to have enable the choke bypass while the guy tapped.... word in the 1st vid inspite of the incontrovertible fact that the Karate guy attempt to do a toe carry, and the 2d tried to decide for the eyes... and that they the two nevertheless lost. That shoots down the thought, "nicely i will gouge the eyes if I could desire to".

In Thai, they just muytai as boxing. and they calls our boxing style as world style.
Most of Muytai Athletics do both muytai kicking boxing and boxing.
And they are good at both.
I think WBA(world boxing association?) Light weight champions can not confront some of muy tai athletics in our boxing style.
In boxing, you punches from distance and you clinches to your opponents. and referee break it and you fight again.
But, in Muytie, clinch is another point of starting fight.
when you clinch your opponent, you start the neck wrestling called "Pam".
And you start to throw knee to body and elbow to head.
Usually, professional Thai boxer has more stamina than normal boxer, because of that reason.
Thai boxers are pure warriors. Professional Muytai warrior in Thai has usually 200+ record in their 20s .
Because they starting their career as fighter earlier than any other places in the world.
One disadvantage of them is they are genetically small;
most of them are small and light , generaly

muay thai trains yours arms and feet when boxing, combat, or street fighting
western boxing, uses only hands (unless it is kickboxing), and if it was in a street fight, it would be hard... (Compared to muay thai, muay thai is better for real life street fight)
