It depends on what you have eaten. I do not have a sweet tooth, so I generally ask for the cheeseboard for my final course.
I am a chef, however, so I would look for the sweet to balance out the previous courses. For a traditional English Roast, I would balance the heaviness of the meat, potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding with the simplicity of a peach, with a little single cream.
My personal offering, which works after most meals, is chilled cucumber, thinly sliced, served on wafer-thin bread (brown), with lemon and orange in squeezers, dusted with brown sugar and very lightly drizzled with Pimms No 1.
Frankly, I abhor sweets after meals, and if I had my own restaurant, they would not be on the menu.. They ruin good meals of any style of cuisine. A good sweet, such as profiteroles, should be eaten when you want it, not as an adjunct to a dinner.
Far better still, is a good cigar and a liquer or Cognac/Armagnac of your choice, consumed in a room away from the dining area, so that the smoke does not annoy other diners. It is best if you do not smoke shortly before the meal, or during it, as the palate will be well and truly buggered.

I don't really have a favorite sweet. I like a lot of sweets. Cookies, cakes, and candy. And, no I don't weigh a ton.

Dark, rich deep chocolate cake, with dark chocolate fudge frosting covered in pecans and soft fresh shredded coconut. Can you tell I am starving?
