What are you claiming is "open-minded"? That one has faith in God? That one does not believe in God? Who is more open-minded--the person who believes that God exists but has no proof that he does, or the person who doesn't believe God exists but has no proof that he doesn't? Why are you equating faith with closed-mindedness.

If anything, one who has faith without proof is very open-minded. It means that this person is willing to accept something that is not backed by hard fact. Much like Copernicus, who believed the sun--not the earth--was the center of our system.... Most others denounced him and thought him a lunatic. At the time, neither Copernicus nor those against him had proof of anything. But Copernicus, the one who believed and then searched, eventually proved that the sun was at the center. Those who did not search--the unbelievers--would have stayed closed-minded and clueless forever. BECAUSE THEY DID NOT SEEK. They just believed something, and that was that--no seeking required.

It is my belief that those who have no faith and do not seek are way more closed-minded than those who have faith and seek. Faith spurs search. Disbelief spurs nothing: It is a certainty, a dead-end.

People who have faith are not "obsessed." That is a wrongheaded thing to say. What we of faith are is faithful. And being faithful means being willing to sacrifice, if need be. For example, if a woman is to be faithful to her husband, she must "sacrifice"--or forsake--all others but her husband. This is the way of loyalty, integrity, and honor. A similar--though different in many ways--thing goes for faithfulness to God. I, personally, am willing to sacrifice anything for God should he ask me to. Why? Because there is nothing on this earth--nothing in this world--more important to me than the creator of all things and the giver of all light and the holder of all truth.

This is faithfulness, loyalty, honor, integrity.

What are you willing to give up for what you have faith in? Do you have faith in anything? Is self-sacrifice at all useful to you, or do you just believe that we should all indulge our petty little selves--with our petty, temporal wants--for a while until we go into the grave dead? That seems profoundly tiny and closed-minded. "Me! Me and my stupid little wants! I will give up maybe a summer of spending in order to get an Xbox."

Ick. Talk about closed-minded.

Your theory that lack of faith equals an open mind is paltry and threadbare. Examine it--that is, open your own mind--to find the error of your thinking. If examining your own thinking isn't objectionable as well.

The whole "point" of faith, my friend, is believing when there isn't 100% proof. If there was 100% proof, we would all believe in God, and there would be no occasion for faith.

God agrees, It would just be nice to see a world with more open minded people. Proof: he gave us free will. I can't prove to you that air exists, I'm not equipped. God is equipped to prove to you that He is real, just ask Him.

Why does everyone obsess over god? Looking for God is hardwired into our instincts. (The busyness of this site is proof enough.) People obsess because they don't want to be proven wrong. Their version of god is the center of their universe, "from which all else was created". Challenge that and you shake their foundations. Some people don't like Earthquakes.

Religion is the opiate of the masses - I think Marx said that (not that I am a communist - far from it)

People obsess of god because the only certainty to life is death... And we are all always looking for a way to be happy and optomistic.

Since the begining of time we have looked for explanations for why the sun rises and sets, where our family member goes when there corporial life ends, why there is evil, etc. etc. etc.

Some people are content to point the finger to god and not search any further. some dont accept that excuse... and then tey both get on yahoo answers and clash... its beautiful

People are inborn with a need to believe and search for something greater than what they know..what they can see or touch.. it is what separates us from the animals and makes us human beings. This is how you find the strength to go through Life and do so with grace and dignity because you have morals and goals to strive for. It is very understandable that people are divided in this "quest for God" because He gave us the freedom of choice, to believe or not. And as in all quests, minds are made up and hearts are either open or closed to their findings.

Thats whats wrong with the world now, people think they can live anyway they want, and not care about anybody else. I would give up my children for God. He created them (and you) so if I would be better w/out them, its his will, who am I to tell GOD what to do.

Because they ran outta topics and are bored. They yap about God, because they understand what they're dealing with. They to play a little game of guessing and assuming what they'd give up just to be or not be with God whatsoever.

Your last statement says it...open-mindedness! Hoorah!

God truly is an awesome being, especially when you realize that you are one & the same...that everything & everyone around you are such as well...

However, through the negativity of this planet that we chose to spend our lifetime, this simple concept is too easy to grasp...plus, it makes us fully responsible for ourselves here, it makes us think, it keeps us from being separate & controllable...scarey! But in ultimate reality, when we are our spirit selves, the totality of God, we are One...even in our diversities are we a celebrated One.

People need something to cling onto. It keeps them going.
I believe in him myself only cos when times where bad I begged for help and strangly what I wanted to come true did come true to almost exact - and when it did happen it felt like someone sent me a message- i actually didnt realize it had happened until later on- but i always remember that message!
Now when i truly need help I always aks god and he always helps me! its strange I had a crap life before I let god in
OMG that sounds cheesy but really you have no idea!!!

They see but are blind, yet they seek.
They hear but are deaf, yet they seek.
They think but are not mindful, yet they seek.
They feel but do not take heart, yet they seek.

In seeking, they know of (a) God. So elusive. So..they obsess.
Yes, open mindedness helps because it means being humble..and then learning to see, hear, think and feel ... all the way.
