does anyone know why it is said to not give a dog chocolate? And why? My dog wants chocolate and of course we don't give it to him because we have heard that it is bad for them. Thanks for any help.

Skip the chocolate because of the caffeine, go for carob dog treats....still tastes like chocolate and not toxic to them.

A good recipe that is easy....we make this the same time we make cookies so the dogs don't beg for the cookies as much (yeah right!)

Actually the chenmical that is toxic to dogs is only in dark chocolate. However.. this does NOT mean you should feed your dog milk chocolate. It's simply not good for them. Anything with sugar is not good for them. If you can make your dog just as happy with a dog treat, or a potato chip, or a green bean, why give chocolate? I know, I know.. he likes it. My dog loves ice cream but I don't give it to her.

I have heard that although dogs mostly love chocolate it is actually poisonous to them. It does not act as a kill the animal by dose poison but builds up with repeat doses. Accidental help themselves to a bag of unattended chocolate will not harm the dog to the point of making it ill. Put the "I can't resist" pinching of chocolate to rest and don't worry about it. Do avoid repeats though for the hairy chocoholic sneak thief's own good :-}

They say chocolate can make a dog very sick and can even kill them. I don't know what the ingredient is that gets them so ill. I can tell you that my pitbull LuLu stole a chocolate cream pie off of the kitchen counter last Thanksgiving and the next day she was vomiting and had diarrhea. I am now very careful that she never gets any chocolate.

when I was little a lady i knew gave her dog these little chocolates called "ice cubes" every day, that dog lived to be about 15 years old, so I think as long as youre not giving the dog a 1lb bar of special dark every day than it should be ok. A little bit as a treat every once and a while shouldnt hurt.

I've heard the same thing! For many years I gave my dog some chocolate from time to time, didn't seem to hurt them. Then I dated a groomer, and she said it was really bad for them. Well, maybe it's like smoking is for humans, it takes a long time to kill!

I've heard that chocolate is very poisonous to dogs... causing there stomachs to become very unsettle and result in alot of throwing up. I've even heard that if you give your dog too much that they could even die.

I read once somewhere that chocolate is kind of like poison to dogs.

I think it is one of the main ingridients in it: caffient.

Don't feed your dog chocolate... no matter what... until you talk to a proffesional pet person (Vet, or a professional employee at a pet shop).

GOOD LUCK!

Its not bad, dont believe anyone that says it. my dog eats chocolate all the time. The downside of doing this is if he consumes too much he gets the sh*its.

Chocolate contains a chemical (theobromine) which is toxic for dogs (and several other animals too, including horses).
