Bearing Gone ?

It could be a several things. It could be a bearing, but those usually squeal instead of grind. I would recommend changing the brake hose going to that caliper. They get old and mushy inside, and a flap of the inner wall will form inside the hose and block off the inside, preventing the fluid from leaving the caliper, leaving it compressed. Also, a defective proportioning valve, but that should effect both rear wheels. It could also be brake dust making it sound like that. Try taking the wheel off and spraying it out with brake cleaner. Also, (sounds stupid, but I've seen it happen at least 4 times,) make sure whoever put the brakes on didn't put one on backwards with the friction surface facing the piston, and the backing facing the rotor. You might also have had the friction surface brake away from the backing and be going metal to metal on the rotor and brake backing.

Tiny stones can get into the wheel. This happened to me when I was driving a new car home (the car being one year old - with 5,000 on the clock !) - I called the AA out because I did not know what it was - and they said it was a tiny stone that had got caught in the wheel - which made a terrible screeching sound on the left hand side of the car. They said it I had kept on driving it - eventually the stone would have dislodged itself, and fallen out.

Who did the brakes ? if it was a mechanic he would know, they always road test it before working on it Any way I'm willing to bet you the bearing was bad before and you though the noise was the brakes.

You need to pack your bearing in the rear.

is it constant? or does it alter if you go round a corner? if it alters as you corner its most likely a wheel bearing......though it could also be a pad that is stuck...just cos its new...ect ect
