i have never had my hair died. My hair is a beautiful brown, and I don't plan on dying my hair until i'm old and my hair turns gray.

I have used 3 types:
BRIGHT garish fire engine red, and blueberry-stain purple: the colours were GREAT but the stuff just coats the hair, it doesn't penetrate it. So, it rubbed off in tiny flakes, that came off on my pillow at night. Then when I slept on it, I got a slight rash on my cheeks from it! Also, the colours only lasted a couple of weeks before so much had worn off it just looked very faded. his made me very frustrated and sad.
Henna (Natural) colours: look nice, but to my great surprise, it really wrecked my hair! I thought herbal products would be gentler. My friend had the same experience - maybe it is okay to use once, but to use it repeatedly seems to make hair dry, dull, brittle, and looking like a rat's nest, We both solved that by just shaving it all off and starting over...
Regular store-bought dye: Seems to be the best. The colours are boring, but my hair is not so wrecked. But that could also be because I have learned to buy SUPER conditioners for damaged hair, because any dyed hair I realise is going to be damaged by the process. I use lots of stay-in conditioners too.

My hair is naturally a very light blonde. It used to be soft and platinum when I was young, and it darkened to a medium, slightly mousy blonde. It's very light for being natural though. I've dyed it red (that was supposed to wash out in a month, but blonde hair absorbs color too much). I also used to dye it blue. Not all of it, just parts at a time, and leaving the rest blonde. I tried to put in black streaks and failed horribly, so I stripped the color out and went back to blonde and blue. Now I dye it completely black.

Bad hair day - friend tried to bleach my hair and it turned out school-bus yellow.
Worse hair day - he tried to take it back to brownish-auburn and it ended up deep reddish-purple. Wouldn't have been bad for a teenager but I was in my mid-thirties!
Now I just do my own - keep to medium auburn and change brands depending on budget and what's on sale. After all, I don't mind the gray because I can cover it up; it's easier to hide than wrinkles!

I hav ebeen dyeing my hair for about a year now, so far just one suprise, but not a bad one. i ususally dye it a reddish brown, well I tried a new brown that just made it a very VERY deep red. it was a semi so it's wearing off now, and it's more like my usual color, but I may dye it back, i kind of like dit after the initial shock of no brown whatsoever being in my hair lol.

my hair has been so many different colors, from blonde to dark brown with pink highlights, right now it's a dark red with magenta highlights. It's fun playing with color, one of the many reasons I became a cosmetologist :)

I've dyed my hair since 7th grade.
1st time, I just got dark red highlights because my hair is naturally black.
2nd time. i wanted like carmel highlights since the red wasn't that noticable [only in the sun]
3rd time, i just wanted the highlights retouched but the lady gave me like light brown, caramel, red highlights and i was like "woah" but i grew into it.
4th time, i was getting sick of my highlights so i dyed it back to my nautral color, black, which was a bad mistake
5th time, i wanted to dye it dark coppery brown and the stylist had to strip all the color out, it turned yellow/orange and then went back with semi-perminant black so i'm waiting to dye to back dark coppery brown.
sometimes i wish i never dyed my hair because i had like really natural beautiful shiny jet black hair. ]= should have listened to my mom.
