It has no actual reality. But if someone believes in being possessed, maybe an exorcism will help their minds? However, I saw a documentary on Discovery about a scammer who performed exorcisms and a psychologist answered this very question by saying that the person in need of real mental help may then avoid it and keep the problem going by not going past their belief in exorcism.

Jesus and Christians cast out demons, which is technically different. We use our authority in Christ.
