Yes definantly, You already answered your own question. That same shape apears when too much pressure is applied to the corners of the eyes. I wont say try this, but if you rub your eyes hard , and pay attention That same shape will apear in the black of your eyes. The Light from the nightlight, Caused it to stand out to your eyes... any like would have. Alot of pressure in your eyes, can cause early deterioration in your eyes, you should get them checked.
If you feel it was paranormal, you would probably see it again. But thats always an option. ;)

Some people see ghost or apparitions. It is easier to see them, when you are just waking up or going to sleep b/c you are in twilight sleep. Those people who see these things are more sensitive to the other realm.Lots of children see these things b/c of their innocence and they have a more open mind.I see a "ghost" in my hallway that goes from one kids room to the other.I am not the only one that has seen this.My b/f and his cousin, and my 9 year old son.Actually I bought a shelf at a garage sale and put it in the bathroom and it literally flew off the wall down the hall next to the oldest bedroom.I thought nothing of it and put it back up on the bathroom wall.It happened again but was more forceful.i have seen and heard many unexplainable things since my parents died.
And yes all those medical conditions can have something to do with it too.

absolutely ,,,the dot in the middle and the squiggly lines were caused by the pressure on your eye ,,,if pressure is applied to an
eye it will give a negative effect ,,like a negative photo, the light in the hallway just let you actually see the veins of the eyes with the dot the negative of the eye,,,,remember this ,,the optic nerve goes
directly to the brain ,,and the eye is the only part of the brain that is
exposed ,,,lack of sleep ,,,causes different phenomena than this ,,,
sleeping with pressure on your eye is not ever recommended ,,,broken vessels can lead to infection ,,,love your eyes ,,they
are a wondrous thing ,,,sleep deprivation causes more mental
problems ,like moodiness ,,,sadness ,,feelings of exhaustion that
do not go away ,,,,try to breathe in and out slowly before bed ,,
do a mantra of your choice on some kind of beads ,,,eventually
you will sleep ,,,,,

One possible explanation, is that: Sometimes mucus strands collect in the eye especially at night. If they lie across the cornea, you might see them as a black spidery thing.. this disappears when u blink or rub the eye as the mucus strand is move elsewhere... Another possibility is that since you are a diabetic, it could be a small hemorrhage inside the vitreous. Get an eye doc to check you up..
Or it could be your friendly neighbourhood poltergeist...

I hold empathy for anyone with sleep problems. Can you get a sleep mask? This may help you get to sleep. And if you are an insomniac, there are lots of drugs that can help you get to sleep at nite. Don't go thru life always tired. Get some help. Use music to lull you to sleep. Breathe deeply in and out. Use imagery...

I think you made yourself see that. I can't really picture what you saw from your description but it could be that you were slightly hallucinating from lack of sleep or maybe you were half asleep and you really dreamt it. I know I've seen weird things at times when I've been drunk. I was going to say it could be floaters, but they disappeared so I don't think thats it.

I believe that it was a fragment of a dream you were having that had not left your mind's eye for a moment. It reminds me of something that happened to me. I was once dreaming that I was attacked in my own front yard. The guy knocked me down and jumped on me with a knife. As he was bringing it down to stab me, I was so afraid, that I sat up in bed. But just as I was doing this, and I opened my eyes, for a moment I still saw that guy sitting on top of me, coming down with the knife! It was very eerie.

it could happen, i don't know. =/ that happens to lots of people, sounds like your blood pressure is very high. see your eye doctor for help with what illusions might have occured and your eye's pressure, and your standard doctor for a check-up and an 'OK' on your sleeping disorder. good luck!
