The principle cause of constipation is poor diet-- specifically, a diet deficient in fiber and fluid. Well, certain drugs may also cause constipation due to decreased bowl movement.
Dietary fiber is very important in proper bowl function. It can absorb water, thereby, softening the feces and increasing their mass. On the other hand, it can be digested by colonic bacteria, whose subsequenct growth increases fecal mass. The best souce of fiber is bran. Fiber can also be absorbed from fruits and vegetables.
Mild exercise, esp. after meals, also helps improve function of the bowel. If necessary, a laxative may be employed, but only briefly and only as an adjunct to diet and exercise.

White grape juice will also help with constipation and it tastes better than prune ~ actually works better too. Also have him eat a spoonful of Karro syrup (the white) ~ it will make him go within a day and helps soften the stool. More fiber and stay away from banana's and dairy - too much will cause constipation

for all human beings.. the only normal way to fight constipation is by 2 things. first is pumping up your liquids (drink more) and second is exercise. unless he has a special medical condition. oh and another thing.. if he is kind of high strung or high anxiety.. well then his body tends to hold back until there is a time he feels relaxed. but by this time it could be a painful situation. also when he is at school, and if he has to go, i am sure he doesnt feel relaxed enough in that setting to relieve that part of his bodily function. this adds to the constipation. there are mild stool softeners on the market very safe also. swallowed as a capsule. if it asks for 2 pills .. try only 1.. or if one pill try only a half. just enough to help him. also applying hot water bottle to the stomach area can help. hot liquids by mouth is great. the hottest he can stand it the better. tea, hot cocoa, soup, and again... its all liquids isnt it? people talk about ohhhhhhhh how coffee gets me going in the morning.. well if they only realize it is the heat that is getting them going. i am not a coffee drinker, and yet i like the hot liquids to get me going. dont forget some people dont relieve themselves everyday and then feces stays in the colon longer(which is not good for the colon). i remember this one thin woman went every 10 days. and she was a daily coffee drinker. but when she went .. it was alot.. check on line for causes and answers for constipation. but as long as he doesnt have a medical condition. then the things i am telling you is what you need to follow.. and you dont want to scare the child with enemas and suppositories. but in emergency situation.. you have to do what you have to do and dont wait too long as that he would need to be seen in a hospital. poor kid .. all day long as it is most kids cant drink fluids..or go to the bathroom. o how i hated school.

Make sure he is getting plenty of fiber. Apples are a great source and whole wheat bread...saralee has whole wheat bread that is not dried out...it's really good...soft and yummy. I hate wheat bread, but I'll eat that. Just make sure the label says 'stone-ground wheat' as oppose to 'enriched wheat'...anything enriched is exactly the opposite!
Here's a link I found for great fiber sources:

Try upping his fiber intake and see if that helps. Make sure he drinks plenty of water. Tell him not to strain because that could cause damage to the anal area.
If that doesn't work, take him to the doctor.
Here's another site about constipation in children.

in the experience that your daughter does not desire to apply the bathing room in school, which would be a brilliant area of the subject - incredibly for the reason that over the summer season she grew to become into effective regardless of if it began returned as quickly as she went returned to college. loads of youngsters do not desire to apply the bathing room in school, i'm specific you could relate, no remember if it is because of fact it is grimy or you could desire to speed at recess or there is not any privateness or you could desire to ask in front of the class for permission to bypass. yet while she holds her poop in till she gets homestead, her poop gets drier and extra durable to bypass so while she gets homestead she has a extra durable time. and she or he's on the age the place she's embarrassed to speak approximately all this, so she says she's effective while she's not. She could have an extra common time speaking on your wellness care provider at her next checkup, in basic terms a theory. loads of "sturdy" meals could reason constipation (PB, cheese, milk, yogurt, meat, cooked carrots, pasta, iron in supplementations, etc.) so she would be eating healthful lunches and dinners and nevertheless have a topic. Fiber is puzzling, if she does not drink sufficient water and juice it is unhelpful. loads of water and getting some exercising daily will help. Dried fruit and fruit juices, too - incredibly apricots, raisins, prunes, figs. sturdy good fortune.

Children don`t normally like or eat a lot of Fiber...but there is one on the market that you can mix with either juice or water. I can`t remember the name of it. Also, you can give him warm tea. Usually the warmth helps soften things up. Works for me drinking hot coffee.

Make sure he drinks a lot of fluids and that he is eating his fruits and veggies. You might also try foods with fibers such as whole grain breads. If his constipation persists, call your doctor.
