I personally support both, it's just that I've seen these phrases several times on this site. If you do not support the war, then you must not approve of the USA being over there. If you do not believe we are justified in being over there then any killing that takes place is not justifiable, but in fact murder. You are then basically calling the troops murders that you support. I realize that the you may think troops have to go where they are sent, but they don't, they can be a conscientious objectors, or go to prison, which most would gladly do if they truly thought they were being asked to commit murder. Please someone explain to me the "support our troops, but not the war" statement. BOY!!! I have to stay off this category, it sure gets me riled...grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Most of the troops that were sent to Iraq didn't have a clue what they were getting into. They assumed their commander-in-chief was being honest, making a responsible decision about where he sent them, and why.

Well, guess what.

I feel terrible for the people who are over there fighting. Some of them knew the score, but most of them were young, politically unaware, and probably couldn't even find Iraq on a map before they went there.

You're right, what they're doing is unjustifiable. They've started something they can't finish, and have destroyed a country and thousands of lives in the process. But the blame for that lies primarily with those who sent them there.

I'm not so yes or no, black or white, in my thinking, that I can't distinguish between errors made willfully and errors made because one was misled. Criminally misled, in this case, in my opinion.

Having gotten to Iraq, and started a war, unleashing sectarian violence into a previously secularly governed society, is rather like having a tiger by the tail. Even knowing now how wrong it was, how the hell do you let go? Even if all the people over there simultaneously mutinied (yes, I know it's not the navy), how can they walk away and leave the citizens of Iraq holding the bag?

I guess it helps to understand how people can say they support the troops, but not the war, if you don't look at it from a standpoint of right or wrong, but just for what it is. A tragedy, caused by corruption, with many victims, and no winners.

You have to be some kind of a republican jerk.
Let us get this straight I am a twice wounded Vietnam combat veteran . I was in Vietnam but did not want to be there . After I got there I rewalized the war was B/S. I love all men and women who ever wore the uniform and by the way you talk you never did or ever will. First remember that once you fight a war you fight it the rest of your life and you become changed forever the person you were when you went there is long gone and when you return home your family is welcoming home a stranger. I know I work for the Veterans Administration and I work with Veterans and the familys of veterans coming home from Iraq and Afganistan and see 1st hand the damage that has been done even though they were not physicaly wounded. For every person over there there are at least 20 more victims of the war back here. You don't know what war is . It is the devils work on this earth. It is the worst thing that exists. I am done because I don't believe I could get through to you a close minded person like you no matter what I said. Go to yahoo home page and type in washingtonpost facesofthefallen click on to the site and explore . Go by the age groups starting at 18 but you will see that most of those who died were 19to 22 years old. Also over 18,000 have been blinded or are amputes from this war so I love the men and women in uniform but I hate what they are going through for no reason what so ever. Don't give me Sadam was evil yes he was but Iraq kept Iran in check aand Iran is a middle east monster thanks to us and Israil is on the verge of starting world war 3 thanks to the stupidity of the USA . If Iran gets involved then so do we and then comes Russia and China and then what do you have. All of these countrys have a big interest in that oil and Cheyney and Bush are oil people so that is why we are there and NO I DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BULLSHIT WAR and F__K you for supporting it. One more thing I have met with and talked privatly with over 800 men and women who have come back from ther and at least 1,500 of there family members mom-dad-brother-sister-husband-wife-son-daughter and only 3 people out of them ONLY 3 (do you hear me) believe we are right in fighting this war and each and every last one agreed that we should get out as soon as possible. You are a jerk
Make sure you lok up the Washingtonpost facesofthefallen site on yahoo home page

Thanks for such a good question. I'm an Army wife and I often wonder the same thing when I read comments like that on here. You got some very interesting replies to it as well.

For all those that got mad at him, I don't think he's saying he doesn't support. I think he just wants to know how you can have it both ways. I could be wrong, but that's how I read it.

Doggiebike....just for your info, just because your "over there", doesn't mean you JUST joined or that you joined at a time of war. My husband has been in for 18 years and quite frankly, we hoped his deployments were over the first time. And when he joined back then, we didn't think he'd go to war. It's just a possibility and a risk that you take for the love of your country. You might want to get yourself more educated.

P.S. Just so you know, I support the military and the war. Those of us closest to it know that we're making progress over there, no matter how slow.

I object to the war because it is pointless. I support the troops because I don’t want them to be killed for a pointless war.

We had no “real” reason to invade Iraq, yes, their leader was a militaristic dictator, but at the time, we were supposedly busy fighting Al-Qaeda the terrorists that bombed the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. When we could not win the fight against Al-Qaeda, we focused our attention to Iraq which had nothing to do with anything but made people forget that we could not find Osama. The war in Iraq is pointless, and is only succeeding in killing thousands of people for no reason.

When Americans go into the military the become they property of the U.S. government and so forth HAVE to take orders they are given. If they decide not to they will be punished, most likely either dishonorable discharge or imprisonment. I support the troops because I do not want them to die, but I don’t support what they are doing.

I'm an anti-Iraq war liberal and I have been in the military and currently have a husband serving in Iraq. I am living proof that you can defintely be both.

I'm an extremely pragmatic person therefore it's not difficult for me to separate the politics of the war and the job he's been called on to do. My husband's not in Iraq to support George Bush or to kill Iraqis. He's in Iraq to take care of the men to his left and right. When he joined the military he put his faith in the American people, that they'd never send him to war unless it was absolutely necessary. The American people spoke, and my husband did what he was committed to doing.

I do believe the "support the troops, not the war" mantra is really a slogan the left uses to make themselves feel better. I don't see them holding fundraisers, supporting the families left at home, or sending care packages. They pay lip service to supporting the troops, but in reality they don't really know what they means.

Soldiering is a time honored PROFESSION, And Soldiers are time honored professionals.

True professionals do not run away when called upon to provide their contracted service, There is no agree or disagree clause in that contract.

Politicians start wars not Soldiers, In America soldiers are sworn to carry out the orders of their commander in chief a politician.

Our current commander in chief is a liar and an idiot, However soldiers being the professional they are carry out their job.

Beside being conscientious objectors and going to prison you can also be executed.

A half ****** mind is more dangerous than a fully ****** gun!

I support our Men and Women who have come to the aid of our nation in time of war. They're brave, smart and professional- unlike the losers I had when I was in, who had the leftover dregs from Viet Nam.

I am against this war, however. We were lied to for the causes of the war, we are now in a quagmire thats very much like Viet Nam in both Afgainstan and Iraq.

Meanwhile, our national enemies such as Syria, Iran and North Korea realize that our military is over extended, and if they want to cause trouble now is the time to do it.

Because of our weakness, we're looking at probably going into 3 more battlefronts, unfortunatly.

Can we win? Maybe,,,,

the CIA definitely formed this communities to combat the Syrian military who're contributors of Al Qaeda and different communities like the al nursa front this is an extremist team linked to Al Qaeda. between those communities battling against the Syrian military there are additionally Sryans who joined those extremist communities to combat the Syrian military, some Syrians definitely dropped out of the combat while they found out they have been area of Al Qaeda. Why are they helping Al Qaeda? the priority for the US is what the priorities are for Israel. Israel needed a broken Syria into states, so as that they gained't be a danger to Israel. the subject is that the war is spilling over different countries like turkey and Lebanon. the US reported they gained't intrude by ability of themselvs, Turkey reported they gained't intrude with out the russias approve or agreeement between eu and Russia for the reason that Trueky fears of russia, for the reason that russia is the only united states of america in the area who's extra powerfull than turkey. War generally brings misery to all parties. So many lives are lost. So war is not good. Hence i do not support war. You will understand this if you lost a family member in a war.

The world is not perfect. So there are many people who do not respect other human beings. There are instances when a peace loving country faces aggression. You need to protect your citizens from aggressors. So you need troops. Hence i support troops.

War should be the last option in solving problems.
