If he's like my cats, he'd probably want to chase the bird the first few times before he learned that the bird is hands off. If you're worried about the bird getting harmed, you could always line the bottom 1/4 of the cage with Plexiglas or something similar and keep the cage in a separate room. I have my birds in the computer room, so they get a lot of attention there. The cats can also be kept out by closing the door.

It'll take some adjustment on both animal's sides. I wouldn't rush it and bring the cat to the bird's cage to introduce them officially.

I have a cat and two parrots, but I had the cat first... the cat ignores the birds, but the birds either scream or become really quiet and stare at him whenever he goes near their cages. I think that a careful owner can have both, but the care comes in assuring that the birds don't fly around when the cat is around. If the parrot is just playing on its stand or on your shoulder, the cat will probably be fine. But if the bird flies, it will trigger a hunting response- a cat's attention is automatically grabbed by a flying bird or scurrying animal. Basically, you can never trust the cat alone with the bird if the bird is out. Never. But they can be out together.

About my pets: I think my cat believes that the birds are mine... he's just wondering why I haven't eaten them yet!

I wouldn't let the cat and the bird out in the same room just because of the fact that most cats LOVE to chase birds. I would get a strong cage for the bird and make sure that they aren't alone, because my kitten figured out how to open my parakeets cage! Just be careful and introduce them slowly. Good Luck!

For the parrot it would be like having a terrorist living in the same room with it . Make sure it's cage is strong and out of reach and don't let it loose in the same room as the cat

Depends on the cat. Introduce it slowly.
