I have hepatitis c virus, genotype 1a. I just went through my year of treatment and have had a negative pcr since my first test at week twelve. I had a viral load over 2 million before treatment.
I know that with genotype 1a I have only a 40% chance of staying negative. I go for my three month after treatment pcr in two weeks. I feel very apprehensive about that test.
Has anyone here had hcv, genotype 1a and gone through treatment and achieved a sustained viral response after stopping treatment?

i do not have or had any of the hepatitis viruses nor treatments, but i was misdiagnosed with hcv, i got a 2nd opinion and was found out i was negative.

hcv can lead to cirrohsis (yellowing) of the liver, which can lead to a transplant.

hcv is not as bad as its friends, hav and hbv.

i hope you feel better and remember its not the end of the world.

Chances are you will have a sustained viral response because I assume you did interferon (shot) and the pills (ribavirin).

If at week 12 you have a negative pcr, that would make me think that you'll be just fine.

Try to stay away from major stressors the post year of chemo.

And the answer is "yes" there are those who were able to have an SVR beyond a year (using both medications) who were Genotype 1a's.

Chances are your virus was caught in time...2 million is considered low.

At age 34, Mine was over 10 million but I had an easier to treat GT at 2b and at least if not longer 27 years of chronic infection.

Good luck to you!!! You soooo well deserve the best!

Yes, I did the old treatment before the pegylated interferons came out. I had genotype 3a and did the treatment for 6 months. I've been clear since Nov. 2000. The peg inf is showing about a 50-57% chance of genotype 1's clearing the virus. Good luck to you; I hope you are undetectable.
