If the clutch has no resistance when you push on it, that means it is leaking down somehow. You have either got a bad master, and/or slave cylinder, or hydraulic line. You stated you added dot 3 fluid to the system. My guess is when it got low on fluid, it got low enough to get air into the system. The quick fix is to bleed the system, but don't let the resivour get too low between bleeds. You can purchase a hand pump type bleeder that puts the fluid back into the resivour, and removes all the air in the process, but these are kind of expensive. They are worth the money though. Until you get the air out of the system, the spring will not stay on. You might can use a set of small locking pliers to keep the spring on temporairly. If you will look at the back of the clutch master cylinder there will be a dust boot, pull it back and if it is wet inside, the cylinder is bad. The same goes for the clutch slave cylinder. Wipe everything down real good with a shop towel, and work the clutch several times. You should find something wet somewhere. When you find the leak, replace that part, and you will be ready to cruise! Please don't assume the master cylinder is not the problem, because lets face it something is, and it very well may be the master cylinder. You may have to get under the dash to inspect the clutch rod where it goes through the dash, and I think you just might find it wet there. Good luck, and have fun!

bummer, 2 things,
first you have air in the system, which,
second, you probably have a bad clutch slave cylinder
bummer, out comes the transmission
the slave cylinder is what disengauges the clutch down at the transmission and should be in the bell housing
the only other option is to look at the back of your clutch master cylinder and see if its leaking fluid, its going to be inside the cab, look at the clutch pedal and find it that way. if your leaking fluid this is where i would start looking

Your hydraulic clutch system needs to be tested to find out where the leak is...also, the master cylinder itself may have an internal leak, which a leak test would not show you. If you had to add fluid to it, though, chances are it's coming out somewhere...you have to find out where...Jeep dealer can help you with that...

Clutch Master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder is leaking, and you have air in the lines.
Replace the Master cylinder (easy) or Slave cylinder ( you have to remove the transmission) then bleed lines.

Bleed the system and check for leakage at the slave cylinder.
