Let's see. My mother is blind and she functions quite remarkably for someone who cannot see. My neighbor is deaf, yet we manage to communicate with a little extra effort. My husband was paralyzed by a stroke, yet he was still the loving, funny man I fell in love with (until he passed away), and mentally challenged people don't know that they are mentally challenged, so they are generally happy people. All things considered, I think I could handle any one of them.

Paralyzed, only because it is not as "extreme" as any of the others in its overall effects, at least it wouldn't be for me personally. If I went deaf, I think I'd go mad, because I've often said that my ears are about the only really important sense organ I own that is properly connected to my brain. If I went blind, holding down a job in my career field would be virtually impossible, and I certainly would not wish to go back to school. again. Besides that, I wouldn't be able to use the driver's license I had to bust my a** to get... And...some people would say I already AM mentally challenged because of the issues I have from a somewhat unusual form of learning disability. But considering that my parents were told I would be mentally retarded (that was the doctors' terminology 30 years ago)...I think I got the decent end of the bargain! Being paralyzed would simply mean doing something I've already had to learn how to do anyway...adjusting my life to the presence of a disability. As long as I could still do things except for walking, I would not have that big of a problem.

I think I would rather be blind. I'm already a little hard of hearing when my allergies start kicking my butt and I feel like I am in a complete fog. I am too much of a control freak to handle being paralyzed, having someone else to take care of me...hmmm...mentally challenged might be ok...I act like a ditz enough as it is (between not hearing very well and being clumsy and uncomfortable around most people)...if I were mentally challenged, being dingy wouldn't bother me because I wouldn't KNOW I was being dingy.
I already bump into things enough as it is...being blind would give me a plausible excuse. Plus, I like to do things with my hands, I like to touch things...I'd probably really enjoy braille...ooh...I don't want to touch people's faces though...ew. With my personality, I think I could cope with blindness better than anything else.
EDIT: Oh my...I was reading some responses and a couple of people pointed out not being able to see nature and sunsets...so I better go with deaf!!!

If I were paralyzed I would have to rely too much on everyone else, mentally challenged the same. If I were blind, I would never be able to see the sunset or the view from the top of a mountain. I suppose if I had to choose one it would be deaf.

Even though I am deaf myself...I think I would rather be paralyzed...because I wish I could hear the voices of my children and my husband....I think that would be really neat. IF paralyzed...I wouldn't want to be from the neck down...I would rather be from waist and down...that way I would have my hands to be able to give hugs...and tickle my kids...and even paint. Music is another reason I would rather be paralyzed ...at least you could see an entertainer and hear them. I think being mentally challenged would be difficult...I would bother me if I didn't really know who my family are..and why I have families...etc. But whatever the obstacles you face with...God always gives you blessings to come along with them...and he has special reasons for them. He always does!!

I am already handicapped so I'm ahead of the game, it's not fun ! I would love to go walking around a mall or out walking/jogging in the nice weather.
I wouldn't want to be blind, I love to see all of God's creation, I suppose I could handle deafness, & I do enjoy my saneness to learn new things & work on the computer.

Mentally challenged, that way I wouldn't even know any better and I would be happy all the time for absolutely no reason.

If I had to pick, i would be blind. But if i could chose any thing I would want to be dumb(mute) because you can still learn sign language and you would be able to hear and see everything.
