I love red, but in this case I would vote against dyeing it. I'd say stay natural with your hair and don't put to many treatments on it or else it gets brittle and falls off and then you'd look like Kojak. And we don't want that.

I have dyed my hair red for years. I just recently decided to go back to brown, but I have found that red is very hard to cover up. So instead of brown I ended up with a dark reddish brown..it looks good, even if its not what I wanted. I think that if I try to dye it brown again i may have to strip all of the color out of it.
I'd say go fo it! Redheads are awesome and I get lots of attention as a redhead....I think I was supposed to be born one LOL

Try a temporary hair color that last 30 days. This is much less drastic and you will not see any noticeable roots. The color that you should choose depends on your skin tone. Do you look good in colors like orange, olive green, or gold? Then try a color with with orange/red undertones. Do you look better in blue, pink, or grey? Then try a color with burgundy undertones.

The real question here is "do I want to dye my hair" and if so do you want to do it that color. Don't do something because of family or tradition unless you want to. For example, it has been tradition in my family to name the girls with a particular middle name...has been for seven generations, and I have decided to continue the tradition not because of my family but because I want to; because I want to honor my family and ansestors around me and will do so by continuing the name....and that is a much bigger descision than what color if any to dye your hair.

If you want to dye your hair, choose a color that will go with your skin tone. It might be the same as some of your faimily, but it may not. If you are fair complected a red might be ok.

keep in mind that red is the first to fade and look dull, but the last to completely go away. if you get tired of it, you will have to dye your hair really dark, strip the color, or cut it. so just be certain before you go red!

Dye it blond. Then you will have a bright color and it's normal. Also your still dying your hair.

Dying hair can be fun, use precautions, don't leave on skin or it will stain, and remember that red is the hardest color to cover up with any other color it always returns

Well you should if you want to and not because your family does.
Maybe dye it red but only if you feel comfortable with that.
