it wasn't on canvas!!! it was oil on wood!!!
and i know its a famous painting!!!!!!!!!

The Mona Lisa is a High Renaissance work although she was painted by an early Renaissance master. As a rule of thumb, artists who were born before 1475 are early Renaissance and those after, late. For our purposes though we are discussing the work rather than the artist!
