"Most economists agree that illegal immigrants impose a net cost on the American government and American taxpayers," said U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., chairman of the Judiciary Committee. "Illegal immigrants represent a net loss to the U.S. economy because they generally consume more government benefits than they pay in taxes."
I think that this is the truth, Criminal trespassers are costing the American taxpayers more than they contribute. Prove me wrong if you are able.

It is true. The sad thing is-which some don't understand-is we can not afford it. It hurts too many citizens here. We can't hurt many to help some--it is just not right.

"Who is the criminal - the immigrant who comes into this country illegally, or the American company who hires them? Seems to me the companies employing them are the root of the problem"

No, that's outsourcing. While many companies KNOW that they are hiring illegals, many do not. Illegals become adept in finding a new identity, why is it that we assume that the company they work for is helping them? The problem lies with the illegals and the companies equally. We are simply too lenient.

How about this:
If a company is proven to knowingly hire illegals, they must pay all taxes and public benefits that the illegal has acquired.
If the company can beyond a shadow of a doubt prove they knew nothing, the illegal is fined, jailed, deported and possibly banned depending on length of illegal status. (remember, some countries cane those who break such a simple rule, I'm just suggesting jail time)

"Immigration, whether legal or illegal, adds workers, most of whom get jobs, which makes the U.S. economy larger. If there are economies of scale, as when producing more lowers the cost of production, the prices of some goods fall, benefiting those who buy those goods at home and abroad."

"Economists agree that the immigration generates a small net economic benefit for the U.S. and in doing so redistributes income from workers to owners of capital and land."

not proof, but you don't have any either.

oops......The New York Times......I guess that invalidates my answer, huh?

I absolutely agree and will be waiting to see if anyone can prove you wrong.

What I really want to know is what does our Social Security Adm. do with all those dollars paid in with phony or stolen s/s cards? When I worked in Houston the illegals passed on the same card time and again. My employer made me let them. All I had to do is change the name and use the same number. Any ideas? Why not use the money to pay for illegal use of our Health and school benefits.

I don't agree,.. most economists only want to prove that it costs america dollars.... they don't see how illegals also contribute to the economy... some illegals don't pay taxes, but they don't get tax incomes.. Most can't apply for insurance for doctors and medical bills, so they have to pay out of their pocket everytime they have a visit to a public clinic or doctor..

okay, so when is the wall being built? When is the government going after the business that hire these illegals? If there is no demand then there is no supply. It's greedy business that lures these illegals into the the country. Fine businesses 50k per every illegal employed and you will see that the illegals will go else where to work.

Whatever happened to getting in the legal way? Is it that hard to get a green card?

Just because citizenship takes a long time doesn't excuse individuals for coming here illegally. It frustrates the heck out of those who waited YEARS to be naturalized. As the old adage goes, "good things come to those who wait."

A pro illegal will never be able to come up with facts ... they won't be able to prove you wrong, because they can't ... but they will call you a racist though, and tell you Americans cost the tax payers money too, just wait and see ... :)
