in Numbers 15 it talks about a man who was gatthering sticks on the Sabbath, and some children found him and was brought before Mose'a and Aaron, and he was stoned to death, why was this? Today we have football games on the Sabbath and people work on this day, so we don't follow the law.

Read all... This is not the only place where the law was taken literally, and if you'll read the Old Testament you will find many such instances. God is soveriegn, and {"His people"} that He brought out of Egypt all said after they heard the Lord speak His 10 commandments "all the Lord has said we will do". (The old covenant, man trying to do it on his own). Even the woman caught in adultry that was brought before Jesus by the religious leaders of His day, expecting Him to have her stoned. That was the law. Jesus said to her that He didn't condemn her...Then He said "Go and sin no more". He wasn't telling her to do something she couldn't. He gave her, and He gives us the power to overcome...YES?? In Him we have the power to become the sons of God.
"The wages of sin is death" Do you believe that the wage of sin is death? Satan said "you will not surely die", and man still believes him instead of the word of God! Jesus, God's very own son, had to die on the cross to pay the price that we owe! If we reject Him and what He has done for us, we must pay the price
ourselves!
Jesus is the New Covenant (Christ in us). It is His blood that atones for us. In Heb 8:10 we see that God puts His law in our minds and writes them in our hearts. The law is no longer something we ourselves try to attain, being on stone and separate from us, but now a part of our new nature, a part of who we are, in Christ, as God's people. We keep the law now because it is a part of us, and it is unnatural now for us to want to sin. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Believe it?
Read Rev. 14:9-11. Shown are the people living just before Jesus comes. Here we see contrast of those who follow the beast with those who follow the lamb in Rev 14:12 "Here is the patience [cheerfully hopeful endurance] of the saints; here are those who k e e p the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus." OBEDIENCE AND FAITH - ALWAYS has been a critera for Gods people.
For FrEeBiRd - You are correct, the law of Moses (sacrificial system) no longer applies and was done away with at the cross. The Law of God is eternal - where there is no law there is no sin. If you look up each of the commandments, you will find each mentioned in the new testament as still binding. Jesus said "go and sin no more." John said "my little children, do not sin" If it is OK for you to break the law, Christ died for nothing. He died to save us FROM OUR SINS, not IN OUR SINS.
GRACE is like a judge who gives leniency and sets you free. Grace does not give you license to continue to break the law. You are just set free from what you should have been convicted of and sentence carried out. You are given another chance as if you had not broken the law. THE LAW IS STILL BINDING, and if you still keep breaking the law, you will be judged so in the judgement.
Law of liberty --- we are no longer under law but under grace...what then, shall we continue to sin...God forbid...we magnify the law (live it).
God bless you as you continue to study HIS WORD for your LIFE.

He was working on the sabbath which was against the law. The law ministers death. It shows us we are sinners and are in need of a Savior and shows the seriousness of sin.

We have a new law to follow which is the Law of the Spirit. Jesus healed on the sabbath and was judged harshly for doing so yet he was not breaking the law. The principle of the sabbath is rest.
