i don't think it's the law's business. i'm the 14 year old in this case and whatever me and my boyfriend do shouldn't be "illegal". I know that if there wasn't that law, there'd be adults doing it with children but can't they add more details to the law? Like maybe number years of difference? I'm sorry that doesn't make much sense. But I met him we he was 17 (I'm on the verge of becoming 15) and he JUST turned 18. So suddenly we can't be together. ..we're in love.. and he's not taking advantage of me..

Because the government feels that someone under the age of 18 is not capable of making the decision to consent to sex

Beacause at 14, 15, you are not an adult...Even tho you may THINK that you are. And he supposedly is an adult at 18, only in the eyes of the law. But he really isnt all that mature either. So just abide by the law, because it IS a law. And turn your interest to other things rather than worrying about why you arent allowed to do adult things right now. You will be 18 before you realize it, and hopefully you'll acquire some maturity and better understanding.

Why is a 17 year old interested in a 13 or 14 or 15 year old? Thats kinda disturbing.
I know where you're coming from, but what are you doing having sex at 14 anyway? You're too young and he's too old to be having sex with a minor!

By law a minor cannot give consent. The government feels that until age 18 you are not fully developed mentally to know what is good or bad for you.

It is something called Statutory Rape and your parents can report it if they know about it. I think in some states it can be reported if the older person is 17 but I am not completely sure on that. You have to watch out because you can get him thrown in jail for that and I don't think you want that. It is definitely a law and I know if for fact because I was a teenager once and I dated someone older....

because the consent law is 16 --
you can date -- but not have sex --- I dated older guys who I never slept with and I stayed in school got an education and obeyed the house rules my mom had in place for me and my boyfriend(s)....if you are doing that then fine ---
By 16 you are old enough to get a drivers license and can work a job --- if you can't support yourself (have your own place) and drive - you have no business having sex... all the ones I went to school with dated guys with cars and they all either got pregnant and had a baby or wound up having abortions(more than one) by the time they graduated from school(or dropped out). Amongst the girls(about a dozen of us) I hung out with in high school with only two of us didn't get pregnant or have abortions.
The main reasons most older guys go for minors is they are easier to manipulate --- you'll do anything to be with him - disobey the rules - sneak out etc... and he'll work his smooth words on you and then you two will be having sex and you think that he's all in love with you because you two are having sex.... you in love and he's satisfying his urges....because if he really loved you - he'd guard your heart and respect your tender years.... If he isn't obeying the law and having sex with you - then you know he doesn't respect rules or really care about you ....
I have spent the past decade talking to many young teen girls who have found themselves in similar situations ---they are now single moms with and average of two kids and on welfare and the boyfriends have moved on many times and have fathered other kids..... wake up before you become another victim---

You shouldn't be having sex at 14 sweetie.. I know I was 14 once. But now I am a mother, and my out look completly changed my views about young teenagers having sex... You will do what you think is right and I understand that, but just be safe and use protection..
