This is for my nonfiction articles I'm working on. Any health expert like a doctor or nutritionist on this board would be most helpful. Anyone who has a preference of one or another will be good too. Please let me know if I should quote you for my articles or not.

Meat is good for you. Vegetables are good for you. Not having meat in your diet can be bad for you. Not having vegetables in your diet can be bad for you. Processed foods are always bad for you and are the real issue.

You cannot survive on a vegetarian diet unless you follow strict rules. If you are willing and able to follow those rules, vegetarianism can be an excellent choice. If you can't/won't then vegetarianism will hurt you.

Alot of lies about vegetarianism being superior are spread by people who are essentially communist wackos. I am deadly serious about this. Anything they say about vegetarianism is suspect in the extreme. Instead, rely on the medical literature.

A good diet is one that is balanced and filled with wholesome, non-processed foods. They should be low calorie, relatively low fat, and have a low glycemic index. You should eat alot of vegetables, whole grains in moderation, and lean meat protein with every meal. Drink water.

As a long-time vegetarian, I feel the following are benefits:
- Animals are not killed just so I can eat them
- I am not overweight, even though I don't really exercise
- I've tried many different foods that I never would have thought to try if I ate meat
- Low cholesteral

I don't know if this helps but this is just what I have gathered from my boyfriend's side of the family who are vegan and other friends of mine who are into the vegetarian lifestyle. Being a vegetarian is usually for health reasons and for people who are against the killing of animals for food. There are so many benefits to being vegetarian. Even though we get protein from meats, it takes 6 mos to a year for a bodies to break down certain meats. Having that in your body for a long time can build toxins. Another example, you can get more calcium by eating a piece of broccoli than drinking a glass of milk. Also, many of our meats, and milk, come from animals that are injected with hormones. These hormones make production faster, product bigger, and more unhealthy for our bodies. I tend to stay away from red meat as much as I can. I eat chicken occasionally and I love fish. But even with fish you have to watch out for mercury levels. In conclusion, if a person is eating meat for the purpose of getting protein, there are soooo many healthier ways of getting the protein you need without having all the things your body doesn't need sitting in your body for a long period of time. If you just like to eat meat because you enjoy it, then enjoy in moderation. Its not healthy at all to eat too much meat. I'm being redundant, but your body doesn't need it.

its good for the environment, vegetables have NO cholesterol, it is a much healthier way to eat. I still eat meat though.
