Lemons come from the tree Citrus limon. Limes come from Citrus latifolia. They share the same genus, but different species. Cherries and Peaches also share a genus between them.

The difference is their genetic make-up. There are even differences between species that can make 2 plants different.

Lemons and limes are very closely related species.

However, lemons are bigger and more acidic than limes. they also are yellow when ripe, whereas limes are green.

lemons are yellow and dont have that lime flavor. i think dey cousins.
