My mum was born in Wiltshire and we left Cornwall when I was 6 years old.

On my birth certificate it states born in Truro/Cornwall.

If I went back to live in Cornwall can I hold my head up high when I get stick from a Cornish local and say.

"I am Cornish!!"

Yes! You have Cornish in your blood. :-)

You may not have spent all your life in Cornwall, but that shouldn't make you any less Cornish. I haven't lived in Cornwall for nearly six years, but that doesn't mean that I don't refer to myself as Cornish.

Our birth certificates and passports are always going to say that we were born in Truro... I'd like to say my passport says Cornwall, but it just says Truro, UK. Close enough.

I bet there's plenty of people who move to Cornwall, were never born there and refer to themselves as being Cornish. If they can, I see no reason why we ex-pats can't say we are as well!

Last time I checked HM the Queen was Sovereign in the UK
If you were born in Cornwall, grew up there to 6 years you are Cornish! You can say 'I'm Cornish' so long as at six you didn't move to france. The majority of Brits hate the french.

Contrary to what Daniel W says, 1/2 of your genetic makeup comes from your mother, regardless of the fact that you are a male. Now that I've gotten that off my chest...I'm an American, and I am not familiar with the "Cornish culture"; however, based on what you're saying, if I were you, I'm not sure I'd want to say that I'm Cornish! Go with English, and still hold your head up high!

If you were born in Cornwall, you are Cornish. For being born in the last county to up hold a traditional english language, I would be proud.

Where you personally where born defines what you are, so you may have descended from people born elsewhere, but you are Cornish for sure.
