Because I personally beleive that if they aren't being used in an offensive manner, it really isn't swearing. Am I right?

I mean, if they say they have a sexy @$$, then why bother taking it like it was an insult? If they say they are having a he-ll of a good time, why worry about it? (Okay, I confess, it's a sin, and that's why I don't like saying it... but I don't mind hearing it).

I hate you, cracker. You're acting like a strict (and foolish) nanny. I will never consider you for a best answer if you even think about trespassing on my answers again.

Yes, it is all about the context in which the swearing takes place. I had a friend at college who we called Tracey 'F**cking hell' Taylor who used that phrase as a filler as she spoke - it was just part of her personality and she said all of her language in a cheery conversational way and it wasn't seen as offensive by anyone. In class, you could see how she struggled not to say that phrase when she replied so it was a shame really. Communication is such a key aspect of our lives that we really need to have a style that fits in with every situation. Most people do, but some people don't, and there are different norms of behaviour for different groups. I think we should be more tolerant of that when we speak to people. If it is not delivered with the intention to be offensive then I don't think we should feel offended by it. Everyone is different and we all do and say things that upset another, so don't get petty over the small stuff.

A swear or profane word, or expression, is a negative connotation producing a negative emotion no matter how intended. I cannot think of one swear word that produces a positive emotion regardless of how it's expressed nor one that ever leaves a positive, happy feeling. Profanity never feels good rolling off the tongue - how can it not be offensive?
I personally feel it's a sign of chosen ignorance (because we always have a choice in words), lack of respect for those who use it and those who have to hear it, as well as a strong statement that screams a lack of desire for better social skills.
I find it very sad that people today cannot put together one proper sentence that's not full of profane words. Sad we don't know how to communicate or express ourselves in more positive manner.
I also would find it very offensive to kiss a mouth that houses such a filthy toxic tongue!

You're right that everything has a context, but...

When people are using swear words as every other word just because they think they're being cool or tough, I just think that's rude and low-class. It's better to find other ways of expressing yourself. That being said, feel free to express yourself any way you want. Just realize that other people will react to you as you express yourself.

Face it, swear words are not classy.

Nope it's pretty much offensive no matter if said in a whisper or a holla. Right is right, wrong is wrong, black is black, swearing is swearing. Understand? Thx for the question.

Yes. You are totally right. The perfect example is when they censor songs on the radio. There is no need for it and it ruins the song.
