Would be one of the greatest fights in history! Johnson's defensive skill against Dempsey's nonstop punching! Back in Johnson's day they sometimes fought well in excess of 15 rounds does that mean the fighters back then were less active to conserve their strength? I think Dempsey's pressure might have been too much for the defensive mastery of Johnson. Dempsey KO round 14

Jack Johnson. Jack Dempsey in his youth neglected defence, Johnson on the other hand was a master in that category. Yes he could punch. I'd go for Johnson, he'd be too skilled.

Johnson - W 93 (KO's 52) TF 127 - W pct 73% - KO pct 41% - he had 12 draws which affects both percentages - wins over T. Hart and Jim Jeffries - KO'ed - fought past 50 yrs old (ridiculous).
Great defensive fighter way ahead of his time.

Dempsey - W 65 ( KO's 50) TF 82 - W pct 80% - KO pct 61% - he had 11 draws which affects both percentages - wins over Jess Williard and Luis Firpo - KO'ed by Jim Flynn - 7th greatest puncher of all-time - 16th greatest fighter of all-time.

Dempsey lost twice to Tunney and I think that Johnson was a better defensive fighter than Tunney. If the fight went the modern day 15 rds then Johnson would win by a unanimous decision. If it was under old time rules then by round 45 Johnson would be felling the effects of those 3 white women he had right before the fight.

Dempsey would have overwhelmed Johnson. Check Johnson's fight record. He fought no one. The only notable fighter was Jeffries who came out of a 5 year retirement and was vastly out of shape when he fought. If Jeffries was in fighting shape he would have killed Johnson and Johnson knew it. Dempsey in a KO early!!!!

Dempsy. Not too often a person would come around good enough to beat him.
