I had a dentist shave a bit off my crown the other day to adjust for stress on tooth. However, I'm finding that I have pain in the tooth. It has a root canal.

Could he have done something that affected the tooth? I find I need tylenol. he checked the bite closely.

When a crown or any bite is adjusted only a small amount is "shaved" off. I like to refer to this as sculpting the bite. If you have-had a prominate biting spot, it causes the tooth and tissue to "bruise" somewhat. After the bite adjustment the tooth will relax and sometimes rebound back into an un-natural biting position. Therefore needing another adjustment. This is not uncommon. And it may take several times to get it just right. Remember, it is easier to remove a little structure than it is to put it back on. You dentist is being conservative. As he should be. Also don't rule out that your root canal may be failing. But less likely.

How old is the crown you already have. The Dr should have adjusted the bite when he seated your crown. Your crown may have had to high of an occlusion and when you bite,,you could have small fracture in the crown. Make sure you dont have food caught between your teeth,,that could cause infection. Also what type of crown is it. What type of metal,,,make sure your not allergic to any metal types. A good way to go would be all ceramic, or a captek crown...You may have to have another root canal and have new crown made.

This is not uncommon. In fact, it sounds like he may need to take off another thousandth of an inch or two. If he adjusts it a time or two and the pain keeps coming back, you may need to have the root canal re-treated, but this is something you and your dentist will have to decide over time.
