Yes. He can follow orders and be a good soldier. Nobody promised your friend that he would not be deployed. He entered a contract and must live up to his end. He will be better off in the long run for going.

I don't know a lot about the whole recruiter thing, but I imagine that they are a lot like salesmen -- tell you what you want to hear. I know for the draft, people can get out of it with a college enrollment... I don't know how it works if you are in the reserves. Unfortunately, there is a need for brave men and women in the field, so they are probably not thinking a lot about college. I think the colleges have a deferment sort of thing for military. Money, classes, everything should be pushed aside. And when he gets back, he will have veteran status and hopefully have more benefits. By the way, tell him thanks for taking care of our nation.

Sorry to say this but your friend is an idiot. That is just common sense. Do you really think the recruiter is going to know when a unit is going to deploy.
I mean do you think the military brings people in just so they can give them a free college degree and then just let them out. He has to pay his dues and if he is going to complain about it hes a bum.
Tell your friend to just hold off on school and enjoy seeing the world.
Sorry if that was a little harsh I was just trying to be honest. Anyone joining the military should do there research and not just depend on what a recruiter is telling them.

Recruiters do not lie, and they cannot promise anything to anyone beyond making sure you complete the proper paperwork to enlist. Once you leave the recruiters office you belong to Uncle Sam. The recruiter has no control or influence on what happens after you take your oath. The military does not exist to make you happy, you enlisted to make the military better and to serve your country as the President decides.

Come on, be nice to the recruiters. They are under alot of pressures. They lie only because there is no such thing as a SET PLAN in the Military! My advice, get used to it. Your friend signed a contract saying that his A** is government property. Tell him/her to suck it up, do thier 4 years, and get out. Good luck!

Nope, excpet that he should have known better.
I am sure the recruiter used words like "should" most likely but in the end, the actual contract that they sign will be the ruling item. So unless he has it in writing, he has to live with the contract.

Your friend sounds like the people who join the military and then ***** and moan if they have to go to war. The military has weapons for a reason.

Sure, providing he has it in writing that he is allowed to attend college first. If not...well, kind of like used car salesmen. If it isn't written down, it doesn't exist.
