Deckape,

A wonderful question. Most so-called believers, never even worry about it, or if they do, only for brief moments. The fact of the matter is, you can't. If you try to follow them both, you will fail at following either one. You cannot serve God, and the flesh. What our Father wants and expects from us, and what our "Leaders" want, are two very different things. God, wants us to love Him, above all things, and to love each other. This is not unreasonable, since He created us, and cares for us with a love beyond human understanding. If we are wise enough to invite His Spirit into our lives, He bonds with us, and makes new creatures out of us. Our preoccupations with materialism and fear, begin to die out. Love and Wisdom, become the foundation of all our choices. The Will of The Father, becomes the sole driving force in our lives. We delight in loving both God, and mankind. The so-called rulers of this world, want something entirely different from you. They want your loyalty, your money, and eventually, your death. They need you to live long enough to have children, pay lots of taxes, fight in their armies, help support the economy, and hopefully die before you collect your retirement. If you doubt this, ask yourself why the sale of alcohol and cigarettes is legal. They are the leading cause of death in this country. Deaths by all other causes pale in comparison, yet our wonderful government continues to endorse the legality of these poisons. The reason, is that it keeps you quiet, and lets you live just long enough to fulfill their needs. A true Son or Daughter of The Most High, will not put on a uniform, and murder their brothers and sisters, because some politician fabricates a story about how endangered we all are from our supposed enemies. Most people just want to be left alone. It is our leaders, who drive us into wars. Political leaders, AND religious leaders. Imagine, if you can, what the world would be like, if we all suddenly woke up one morning, and entered into the Family of God. Our leaders, would all have to go out and find honest work.

Actually, it's not blasphemous...generally speaking. There are provisions in the New Testament for Christians, for example, to follow one's own governement. However, there's also such a thing as civil disobedience, and if the rulers of a nation make decrees that are perceived as being blasphemous, there is also an opportunity to stand up in opposition. Quite a few groups have done this, including the Quakers, Jehovah's Witnesses and many, many others.

No. Following the ruler of your country is just simply following the rules to keep it in order. Worshipping God is putting Him first as He has said there is no other God before Him. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Even your rulers are to worship Him.

Romans chapter 13

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.

If they mandate something that goes against the Word of God that would be worthy of consideration.

I suppose that would depend on your religion and your country. For Christians, Jesus said, "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's." By that he meant to follow the laws of the government. However, if the laws are immoral according to your religion, you would have to weigh your priorities. Thoreau who wrote Civil Disobedience during the era of slavery. His point was that by paying taxes, he was supporting a government that allowed slavery. He could not agree with that, so he did not pay his taxes, and he was willing to face the consequences for this which were imprisonment.
