I never have problems with the police when they pull me over. I assume the same demeanor as that which I used when a recruit in boot camp....passive and cooperative. I do not address the policeman except to answer his questions until such time as he has satisfied himself that I am not a criminal, and I don't have a smartypants attitude. I avoid eye contact. No problems.

I could not help but notice that your avatar is black, and I am familiar with the concept of driving while black (DWB). Ask yourself this question....Am I showing this cop an attitude, even slightly, due to the fact that I believe that this incident is due to the simple fact that I am black? Police are trained to read body language very carefully, so, if you show any sort of agitation, even involuntarily, he will in turn ratchet up the level of tension.

The cops win. Always. That is the nature of the beast. Nothing can be done about it. When you have accepted this as the way it is, one can then go fully into the passive mode and just maybe will be able to finess some understanding and sympathy. If you are going to be arrested, you are going to be arrested. if you are going to get a ticket, you are going to get a ticket. It's completely up to you whether it's done the easy way or the hard way. If the officer has not yet made up his mind about the incident, a passive attitude, willing cooperation, and lack of agressive body language just might create the necessary elements to rule in your favor.

Well, it all depends on your attitude and the way you cooperate with the patrol officer. They can stop you for numerous reasons.
You may fit the description of someone that they are profiling and trying to catch.

You maybe stopped if you are in a private residential community and the officer or residents, does not reconize you from the neighborhood, therefore he will ask what are you doing here? Do you live in this neighborhood? If not, are you visiting someone in the community?

Their job is to serve and protect their assigned area's of their jurisdiction. They are not out to get every dark skin person that passes through certain neighborhoods, Where I live, officers react the same way if strangers enter into our private community, it's part of their job. And our community is very diversed, just very private.

Not all cops have attitudes, you have to remember, they are human as well, they may have had a bad day, but it happens. And we as citizens have our bad days as well, it is just expected of an officer to be professional at all times. Sometimes, they slip up, but, like I said, they are only human.

So do not take it so personally, as long as you have a valid drivers license, registration, and insurance card, you should be fine. Just answer his or her questions politely and respectively and they will allow you to go about your business.

This is from a white guy with not even a traffic ticket on my rap sheet.
Cops are just bully a$$es who can't make it in the business world or in a real college major like engineering. They aren't intelligent enough to have a real major and get a real job that pays real money. They get laid because they have a uniform, but they cannot make a healthy, lasting relationship work. They can't manage money, and have to rent apartments from guys like me. They're losers, and they know it. That's why they are ALWAYS bullies when they have that badge because they know without it they're a fVching nobody.

I believe that a Police Officer reacts to the individual as humanly as possible. Sometimes, we the people let off an attitude of hate. Therefore that leaves the officer with a bad taste. Actions always speak louder than words. Respect the officers, they are always there for our help.

Ask the cop if he is investigating a crime, and am I a suspect. If the cop says, "no," then you tell him that you want to leave. When he then begins asking you questions, tell him that you have a right to be mirandized, and you wish to speak with your attorney before you continue to answer these spurious questions.

Some cops are reasonable, but those are the ones who are not on crack of performance-enhancing drugs. Few, as they may be.

Normally it is the tone of the question, or the stupidity of the quetion. Normally if you are nice, explain what the officer wants to know, and then ask a question, but if asking the question is trying to not answer his, it goes down hill from there.

Generally the officer has decided if he is giving a ticket long before the car has stopped. Yes, it is possible. However, it is the individual not the uniform that you have to work with. Don't hold it against all officers. :)
