the vet or any kind of pet store has an ear solution that you can squirt into the dogs ears smoosh it around and use a towel to fully dry the inside out with then carefully with a q tip clean excess yuck and water out. i have used this stuff its great just messy and i suggest putting a few towels down squirting the stuff in so the ear somewhat overflows then use a towel to absorb the moisture so an ear infection doesnt come on. they have it at petsmart for sure

No alcohol - it will sting.

Hydrogen Peroxide on gauze wipes. We have a lab that has "lab ear problems". The solution the vet has is actually the best stuff. Eventually your dog will give in and let you do this, but don't hold onto his ear too hard, he'll associate this with pain.

Pieces of cotton. Q-tips are too small and may hurt if you stick them up too far.
