reading_is_dangerous, will you please tell me why the Christians sacrifice those animals. I didn't know about that. Also when the people of this world can see each other as one big family then I will worry about going beyond the illusion. We have to start somewhere.

Just to clarify I am a vegetarian. I was curious about how a person like me could be a Muslim if I am expected to sacrifice an animal for Eid. How do vegetarians deal with that in other religions?

Christians no longer have to sacrifice animals. Under the Old Law (Old Testament), the only way to atone for sins was with a blood sacrifice. Why? Because blood represents our life---our essence. Giving that as a sacrifice to the Lord shows that we're deeply sorry. That's why they sacrificed animals---so they wouldn't have to give their own blood.

But when Christ died for our sins and shed His blood for us, He covered ALL sins---past, present, future. So we as Christians don't have to make blood sacrifices anymore; Christ did it for us. We're living under the New Law (New Testament). As long as we acknowledge our sins to God, all He sees then is the blood of Christ covering our sins, and He lets it go. Pretty awesome, actually.

Christians in the East still practice animal sacrifices. Lambs, chickens, I see it every week. There is even a special stone by the doorstep AT THE CHURCH with a depression for collecting the blood.

+++WHY? To thank God, or destiny, or when bad things happen to them, and they want something nice for a change.+++

Those who practice Santeria (not Santerini) and Voodoo humanely sacrifice animals. In fact, although I do not agree with animal sacrifice as part of a religion, the animals are raised in a humane environment, fed well, and killed quickly. Compared to the meat most of us eat, these animals are much better off. Do you know what goes on in slaughterhouses?
Satanists DO NOT sacrifice animals. Stupid teenagers and psychotic people who want to rebel and scare people kill cats and such as part of a made up "satanic" religion. Please do not believe what you see in stupid movies.

Voodoo, satanism and related pagan religions use sacrifice. They do it to ask spirits to intervene and do their will or as a gift for the spirits.

Judaism doesn't practice sacrifice any more, but it will return. The reason for that sacrifice has to do with a blood dept for sins they commit.

Santorini is an island. Santeria is a religion. Animal sacrifice is a way to give gifts back to the gods, appease them and ask for favors.

i have heard people saying that in india in kolkata there is a famous kali temple. there . even now they sacrifice animals for the goddess. kali. come to think of it , people who eat meat ,don't u think u r killing animals for food ?u may not be killing them directly, but somebody is killng them for u , isn't it ? in india people ususlly offer their food to god before they eat. if they are non vegetarians what is wrong in offering their food to the goddess ? u kill animals in butcher shop. they kill the same animals infront of their gods.what is the difference ? i am not saying that killing animals is good. killing animals is a great sin whether it is for sacrifice or for eating. so, become vegetarians & stop killing animals . whether ir is to appease god or for your food killing animals is sin.
