Marijuana seems to be a huge controversial issues on these "boards", so I want to know why.
Why you like it, Why you don't.
If you are against it, why? Whats your proof, where is your evidence backing up your claims?
If you are for it, why? Do you enjoy it that much? Why do you use it?
If you're concerned on where I stand I'll tell you; I smoke, a lot. [once or twice a week]
I find it entertaining and very relaxing. As far as marijuana ruining lives, it depends on the person. Take myself for example:
I happen to be in college for Computer Sciences and Multimedia Arts, I've maintained 3.8 GPA last year.I am considered to be a responsible individual. I am on more than one sports team and am in an active relationship.
My friends are the same way, successful in school, in many activates, and have active social lives.
I won't sit here and defend the behavior because I have seen those who can't / don't control their smoking habits.
So what are you thoughts?

I totally agree with you. Its very possible to be active, healthy, smart and a pot head all at the same time. I'm also in a happy long term relationship. I just graduated high school with a 4.0 GPA and I'll soon be attending one of the nations top universities. I smoke pot on a daily basis and think people way over exaggerate the bad things about it. I enjoy it because its all natural and relaxes you. Its also a good social thing, getting together with some friends to smoke a joint isn't such a bad thing. marijuana is the most commonly uses illegal substance in the United States. it is used by many people, most of which aren't your stereotypical "druggie", with no life agead of them. Many of them hapen to be very successful, good people. Think about it almost if not every person who reads this paper will know (even if they don't realize it) at least one if not several regular users of marijuana. Its often made out to be much more harmful htan it really is, unfortunatly not every one realizes this.
What many people don't realize is marijuana is much less harmful than alcohol or tobacco. Yet it's the one of the three that gets a bad rap and is illegal. Marijuana isn't even physicaly addicting. You certanly don't see meetings for marijuana like you do with alcohol and AA. Unfortunatly due to American culture the less harmful of the three is illegal.
The most common reason why marijuana can be harmful is that people can often come across laced marijuana without realizing it. Marijuana can easily be mixed with other more harmful drugs with out the buyer realizing it, until they have already used it. This is a dangerous thing that causes many people to do more harmful, hard core drugs without realizing it. If it were to be legalized the government could provide guide lines, like it does with alchol to insure that people knew what they were putting into their bodies.
Marijuana actually has many helpful benefits toward diseases / sicknesses. Marijuana can reduce nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite caused by AIDS. It can Reduce interlobular pressure, which alleviates the pain and slowing and sometimes even stopping the progress of glaucoma. Common side effects of chemotherapy are nausea, loss of appetite, and vomiting, all of which marijuana would help. It can limit muscle pain and relieve tremor nad unsteadiness of gait for multiple sclerosis patients. Marijuana can help prevent epileptic seizures in some patients. It can also alleviate chronic, often debilitating pain caused by myriad disorders and injuries. Each one of these applications have been deemed legitimate by at least one United States court, legislature, and/or government agency.
Due to these reasons and many others many people are going to jail/prison on a daily basis due to simply smoking a little pot These aren't dangerous criminals that would kill or rape someone. Many of them are teachers, lawyers and respected members of their communities. But yet we still pay thousands of dollars of tax payers money to lock up non dangerous "criminals" yearly even though most aren't going to stop after they get out of jail. Don't you think the money spent here is a waste? Couldn't it be going to more useful things such as hospitals, disease research, or better schools? These are the things that would benifit the people of this country. Certanily you would rather benefit the people more than throwing a non violent pot head in jail who was only trying to smoke a joint and relax after a long days work in jail. There is up to forty million regular (note thats just the regular not occasional users) drug users in the United states. If we were to throw all of them in jail it would cost $500,000 per million people, plus the cost and space of building many more prisons. Couldm't that money be spent on building hospitals? There's already about 1.5 million people tax payers are paying to keep in jail over drugs. From 1990 to 2003, nearly 5.9 million people had been arrested for smoking marijuana. Thats a greater number than the entire population of Alaska, Delaware, The District of Columbia, Montania, North and South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming combined. This country simply can't afford to put 40 million more in jail.
Marijuana should be legalized. It has many uses such as helping sick patients. People are going to smoke it no matter what the government sais, and with out govenment guidelines this can be dangerous. Not to mention the fact that we have no way we can afford to throw all those people in jail. Its much less harmful than alcohol and tobacco, which are legal, so doesn't it make sense that it would be also?

Well, I am likewise a successful and educated person who has smoked from time to time. I stopped because it did make me a lot lazier, and messed with my moods a bit... but it didn't stop me from being successful. I don't think it should fall into the category of illegal drugs at all. In its severity of the effect on the user, I would rank it above cigarettes and below alcohol, and I would place the other illicit drugs (coke, hallucinogens, ecstacy, etc) well above alcohol. So yeah, I say legalize it and let people make their own decisions.

marijuana has been used for hundreds maybe even thousands of years for many purposes. Unfortunatly our government and capitalism has made it illegal for us to use for personal use. I belive this is for their own personal profit because of the millions of dollars they make from our tax dollars arresting so called criminals for marijuana charges, not to mention taking up all the prison room that real criminals could have. Since the 1920's horroendus lies have been made about marijuana to the public and to this day some people are still effected by this. It's so easy for people to listen to what their government told them, even if it is vague. So now we have ignorant people who try to treat this drug like any other drug that is destroying our nation. Marijuana is far different from those drugs, and has helped for spirrtual and and medicial use as well. I guarentee you, that this question will get slammed by ignorant drug mongers, so many people are just simply uneducated about this topic and it is sad to see that. I have seen responsible marijuana use improve so many lives. It's unfortunate that capatalism would still even ruin marijuana even if it was legalized due to how much it would be taxed. Personally i use marijuana on a day to day basis... hence the name. And i am very sucessful in my life. Health, carreer, and financial wise. Its the irresionsible users that let is wreck their lives. Those are just lazy people using marijuana. You are also a good example of someone who uses that can be sucessful in life. The ignorance of people will forever flow on this topic so i fear that it will continually get bashed apon...especially on yahoo answers...like i said its a sad sad world.

Like you said it depends on the person.......
For you id say its ok just so you dont do crazy things when you do smoke like take money or cars that are for others.
But its wrong when people cant control them selfs! My boyfriend use to smoke every day but then he met me and he quit he still smokes every once in a while to come his nerves which i have no problem with just so he controls his self
My step dad does it every once in a while but he cant control his self and he does bad things like still money and our car so id say he is wrong for smoking
I dont smoke cause im only 13 and i dont want to waste my money on that plus i dont think i could control my self. And i wouldnt want my boyfriend who is 16 to start smoking every day again.

I think that it is a crutch, like any other form of self-medication.
I also think that of all the crutches that people use to get through the day, or the week, it is one of the least dangerous. But, it is illegal still, so be careful with that.
