Does any one know what it means when a pigeon brings up quite a lot of blood, and can it be saved.?

It indicates a serious problem, which needs to be looked at immediately by someone who is trained.

If it is a pet bird, take it to a vet. If it is a wild bird, take it to a wildlife rehabilitation clinic. This site http://www.wildlife-international.org/EN/public/emergency/emergencyrehab.html can help you find one near you.

If you have found the bird it might have some serious internal injuries. It might be best to take it to a Vet to have it put to sleep.

If it is one of yours and you know it hasn't had an accident then the bleeding could indicate a number of causes - I can't see it recovering without help from a Vet.

The birds could have a ruptured air sac. Air sacs are inflatable sacs that are part of the lung system and are for giving lightness to the bird's skeleton. If the birds does have a ruptured air sac, it will probably heal on its own if you keep the bird in a quiet, dark place with small amounts of food and water. If not, it will probably die.

If it's alot of blood it has more than likely swallowed something sharp and is in need of a vet's attention. Don't wait!!

if any animal bleeds from its throat it can be fatal as it will be suffering and it might die because the conditions could get worse and depending on what your bird has swallowed, like if its sharp (glass,plastic) it maybe stuck and as Ive said it'll be fatal!!!!
i think you should go and see the vets!!!!
