What age should a child be before going to a movie theatre? My daughter is 2 1/2 and will watch a full movie with me at home. I'm thinking about taking her to see a children's show around 2pm. Does this seems like an appropriate age to go?

The movie is called "Barnyard"

Barnyard looks funny and it's only 90min.

You'll enjoy it. Use it as a test. Sometimes children don't like movie theaters. My son didn't start enjoying them until he was 5. I wasted a lot of money for him to sit there and refuse to look at the screen or be scared of the dark or all the other people. I say try it out. If not, rent movies and make your living room into a mock theater, pop popcorn and turn the lights down. Take her to the restroom before the movie starts. Have fun.

Obviously - YES

Building a relationship with your children should happen from very small days and this is definitly one way of doing it - as you have rightly mentioned - you take her for a kids movie. I don't see any reason why a 2 1/2 year cannot see this perticular kids movie - just make sure that the movie is made for kids under 6.

Can you daughter sit completely still for a couple hours...the length of the movie?

Remember that in the movie theatre, it's different than at home. Seats are different, movie noise is louder, lots of people around & close to her. If she can manage all that, then take her.

But be prepared to get up & leave the theatre if she makes any noise at all, because the people around you probably don't love your daughter as much as you do.

Depending on the child. My stepdaughter can sit through movies at home too, but when I took her to go see one in the theater she didn't like how dark and big the room was. All kids are different though. You wont know until you try it. Either you'll waste ten bucks or wonder if she'll do good. I suggest taking a stab at it and I wish you luck!

well i believe a mother should be somebody who should be a friend rather than a though woman, she should be somebody to whom a daughter or son can speak openly rather than being frightened .a mom should be totally cool .i don't think there is any problem in taking your daughter for a movie only make sure that the movie is not A rated.bcoz she is not mature enough to see such movies.but talk to her about things like xxx when she is mature enough and make her understand the wrong things.right now watch with her movies like harry potter, chitty chitty bang bang, lion king etc.be open minded and go ahead bcoz ur concern proves that u r a greattttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt mom.lets add this that be her peer rather than than a strict mom.if the movie is fit for her genre then watch the movie with her.

It's a kids movie so take her. Going to a movie outside of home will be different though. There will be other people there besides you. She has to learn how to behave in a theater sooner or later, and with you taking her you can school her on how to respect other people. Enjoy the show!

My mom started to take me to the movies when I was 2 years old. I sat quitely through the movies and enjoyed them. I actually REMEMBER some of the movies (yes, I'm one of those people who remember stuff from an extremely early age). Anyway, go for it! You guys have fun!!! :)

That is a good age to take her to a movie. If she can sit through a movie at home okay she will have no trouble sitting through a movie in a theater.

My children always hated the loudness of the movie theater. I think I would wait. Rent it and maybe try between 4 and 5.

Take her. She will love it. Most of the time these movies are packed with parents and children there anyway, especially for a matinee, so if she were to talk out loud or something, everyone would understand.
