When I play Sims 2, every time i have a baby, toddler, or kid, every time i try to save or go shopping, the application crashes. I WILL deinstall and install, but any tips on solving it without that?
(I have all extension packs and rather wouldnt have to re-install EVERYTHING!)

You can test to see where your computer needs tweaking
Drop down menu - pick the game you're playing

If there's low spots, you will need to work on fixing it up.
If you're using a laptop and it's over heating, choose a surface that allows air circulation (don't use something that insulates the heat like a blanket on your lap)

The graphics card needs to stay cool. If your graphics card is low on memory and does not have a fan, things will run slow.

You may need to work with smaller lots, with fewer trees, smaller families. Your parties must be smaller as well. The game is very intense on a computer so the more RAM you have, at least a gig, the better your graphics card (and if it has its own HUGE fan) the quicker your game will run.

Minimum specs are just that. A minimum, and it doesn't account for all the other things your computer may be running at the same time, or outdated drivers and wonky cheap graphics cards.

I've been there. I had the absolute minimum requirements and an off brand video card because I never used my computer for gaming before, it was a database workhorse. Then when I first started to play the Sims 2 when it came out, the game was slow and jerky (the original Sims ran okay, but slow) and I had to set all the Sims 2 graphics settings to the lowest tweaks. Sometimes the screen went to black when I played certain houses. It sucked.

Smaller lots ran better. So to me, sounds more like you have hardware and driver issues. Try out the test and take note of the deficiencies.

maybe your computer isnt powerful enough to run a game like Sims 2. You can check the requirements of running the game at the bottom of your Sims 2. just in case you dont have it:
-its recommended that you have a windows XP
-RAM: 256 MB or more
-Hard Drive: 3.5 GB space or more
dont know how to check? look at your computer..theres a sticker...it usually has all the info on it.
However if you do exceed all the requirements then maybe you have too many things in your computer. try deleting some useless stuff that might cause your computer to slow down or crash
another tip is to defragment your computer. it takes a long time (couple hours) but it'll improve your computer speed. heres how..
click on programs in your computer..acessories..then system tools ..then disk defragmenter

I think it's a bug. Try to reinstall the game.
