I was wondering if there were religious reasons for keeping this list, other than to honor the dead? Do you list only Mormons in your archive, or do you list all those deacesed that you can find documentation on? If you list others, who are not of your faith, how would I access these archives? Thanks for any help.

We do keep a list, we call it our family history and have to prepare names to go do the baptisms for the dead. It takes a while because since others are doing their family history it takes a while to make sure nothing has been done for that particular family member. And with family history or geneology we always add those who are not of our faith. If you look hard enough you can always find some sort of documentation on your own family history.

Sorry, there is no way you can really access the archives or files of the deceased that we do proxy (in name of) baptisms for. But you can start your own family history for free on familyhistory.org. It's completely free and if I gave you the wrong url, go to lds.org and click on the link for family history.

Mormons keep a list of the dead and then get baptized in the dead persons name.
It seem innocuous enough, until they start doing it for your parents, your son, your husband, your grandparents.
