The sound of flowing water or the ocean excites alpha brain waves and has a calming affect.I didn't bother to do a search but if you do with the words alpha brain waves and sounds you'll probably get a few hits that can help satisfy your curiosity.

I love to hear several calming sounds, but here are a couple favorites--a gentle rain falling on a tin roof, the wind blowing gently through the leaves, even a gentle(not severe) thunderstorm can be calming.

For me, also the ocean. I walk by it everyday, for three and a half miles. it is so beautiful, and so massive. Even the largest ship is dwarfed out there. My husband and I love to drive up highway 101, just to see and listen to the ocean...nothing like it for me,..and you are right, it does seem to sooth your soul from anything.

the ocean for me also. i moved from the big city (on an impulse) to the beach two years ago. i have never felt a better mind, body, spirit connection!

there is no problem that you have that walking on the beach will not solve.
