Some people are in a rush and don't see the red light, or choose not to see the red light and hope they don't get knocked down while trying to cross the road. Some people just can't wait for the green man to come on, and so they jaywalk to keep moving.

They're impatient and think they can walk fast enough to avoid cars. It's a stupid thing to do in big cities, especially since some police officers will give you a ticket for it, if they catch you.

because it takes to long to wait for a walking signal, and if other people j walk that tells everyone else its ok.

we dont have this rule in UK it sounds so stupid getting in trouble with the law for crossing at a stupid place!
