Got into a fight with another bird and lost his toe. I noticed now he opens his beak to chirp and no sound comes out. Is it just my imagination? Please help!!!

he might simply be stressed from the fight and what you are seeing is not him trying to sing but heavy breathing.

If he continues this for long or starts to sit huddled and all fluffed up please take him to the vet for this is a sign of illness. Or if your worryed already take him now.

I have not see this happen in a bird that got in a fight. But I did have a bird, when I was a little girl, who lost it's chirp due to laryngitis.

Ive never heard of this happening? Is he down on the bottom of the cage way too much? That is a sign of illness.
