Some officer's jobs are traffic only. The only thing they do all day is look for traffic violations. Yet if they give a someone a ticket, they are being d*cks? Almost everyone who gets pulled over has an excuse. Is that the American dream? Being allowed to do what ever you want, because you think you are always right and the earth revolves around you. Some people complain that the cop was wrong to cite them something that they thought was petty, but it is their job. 1 mile over the speed limit is a crime (even if it is a small one). Laws are in place to in order to protect people, not harrass them. Cops do not write the laws, but they are sworn to enforce them. At what point should a cop call a "little" crime not worthy? Some say speeding isn't that bad, yet every year alot of people die as a result of speeding accidents. Some cops do abuse their power, but every profession has a similar groups. It is a sworn oath and we will always prtoect you, even if you don't want us to!

pops...as is stated, some cops ONLY work traffic. also, how do we contact the people if we don't use things like...failure to use turn signal, rolling through a stop sign, etc. I caught over 800 pounds of dope, because the guy didn't signal his turn.

pops is right the cops spend to much time writing tickets and not enough time going after real criminals. It seams like murder is more acceptable in society than rolling through a stop sign.Is the only way a criminal ever caught through traffic stops? If that is the case all they gotta do is use turn signals, don't speed, and light a cigarette at every stop sign and they are free, even after commiting horrible crimes.

Once - I was a bartender in a little town.
i swept a woman off her feet that had a cop for a boyfriend...
he used to wait for me to come home in different places - in bushes, under bridges, behind signs...

I received 6 tickets in one month between the hours of 2am and 5am.

I had been stopped for alcohol check 4 times
(most bartenders don't drink).

I lost my license because everytime I contested the ticket...
I lost of course.

I think I was being harrassed.

However, after accidentally suffering a shattered knee cap at 3 in the morning from not paying attention...and subsequently losing his job...I would say that sometimes the tables get turned and all is well.

I don't believe one ticket - even two in the line of duty - constitute harrassment unless theres something personal between the two.

I think theres a definitive line between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law.
A farm road with good visibility and no cars for MILES at 3am probably isn't a great place to give a ticket for exceeding the speed limit by 10 miles an hour.

There certainly must be traffic inforcement.I know there would be chaos in the worst degree if there wasnt.Speeding kills,on highways and city streets, especialy where children are playing. But cmon now,so someone fails to use a turn signal, rolls slowly through a stop sign on an empty street,or goes through a yellow light. The trashy cop walks up,after you have given him your license, registration, and proof of insurance, here comes the questions.Where you been, where you going, where you work, who's your friend, and the investagation is on.The slimy cop is standing there with an attiude from he*l.He's on a power trip where he is so high above me cause he's a cop, risking his life every day to protect me from evil.He is standing there running me through the ringer with all his might, giving me as much he*l as he can while real crime is going down right under nose his nose. Our projects are so full of crime that our children grow up and it becomes a way of life.I understand that traffic needs to be kept under control, but so does crime.Stop riding around around lookind for every "little" thing you can find, and go after the real crimes.

Some officers are decent and truly seek to serve and protect. Others...well, give them a fur coat and they think they are a gorilla. Then, again, most are on performance-enhancing drugs (or, flatly, crack); they do not have the capacity to act in a civil manner. Studies have shown that any time one person has control or power over another, there is a greater inclination to treat that person less civilly. It is the nature of the beast in all of us.

I think that the people who accuse the police of harassment for issuing tickets are the same people who wasted class time with their antics, then accused the teacher of "picking on them" when they got into trouble.

You are correct. They think the world somehow revolves around them.

All I can say is, try not to get worked up over them. You are greatly appreciated and respected by the rest of us...even when I get a speeding ticket. I hate 'em, but they serve their purpose. I pay closer attention to my driving and slow down.

I, as a correctional officer, have great respect for officers of the law. However, I have noticed that towards the end of the month you'd better be a little more careful watching the speedometer. Don't tell me there isn't a quota that you are all trying to reach. Oh, and could you please stop arresting such stupid ppl.

A police office writing a ticket as part of their job is fine, so long as they aren't writing tickets for one group of people, while allowing another to get by on just warnings or not even being stopped.
.
In other words, don't pull over blacks and give them tickets, if you aren't pulling over whites as well.

I don't think its harassment, you may just be hearing those words from people who do not take responsibility for anything in their lives. I know many people like that and they make me nuts. I am in a small community filled with retirees and teenagers. It is a very dangerous mix and would actually like to see more tickets given out.
