Birds eat each other 4 many reasons.
Over-crowding & territory disputes.
Birds have a " Waste not want not attitude".
They really can't afford 2 B that fussy!
60% of common garden birds R in decline, due 2 over-farming/pesticides that they use kill bugs/flies the birds normally live on.
Urban sprawl, pollution & bad storage of fertilisers etc also add 2 their woes!
A bit of cannibalism, I guess, tends 2 keep some species going!

Do you mean why does a bird like a hawk eat a bird like a pigeon? Because it is their diet and nature. A bird eating another bird is not cannibalism. It is only cannibalism if it eats another bird of the same species. Similarly, if you eat another mammal, you are not cannibalizing. You could even eat a gorilla and it wouldn't be cannibalizing. It is only cannibalism if you eat another human. Birds share the same Class with other birds, but not the same species.

i will answer your question with a question. why do people eat people...cannibals eat people for one of two reasons
A. they are hungry
B. they are warring with other tribes and they do it, to sort of eat there souls...therefor they have the upper hand next time they are in a battle
other points... alligators eat their baby's too
momma cats have to protect their kittens from daddy
momma lions have to do the same thing
at least birds don't eat their young, just other (smaller) species ,as far as i know anyway.

well if it's a mother bird and you touched one of her babies it's because the baby smells different and she doesn't want it competing for food with her babies that don't smell like you. Another reason is it may have something wrong with it.

its called the food chain....all part of nature. Everything eats something else. If animals didn't eat other animals we would have some huge overpopulation problems.
