Yes, she used to be a family Judge in NY.
The cases have already been decided in other Courts. They come before her to see what SHE would have judged.
Apparently, she had a big mouth as family court Judge also.

According to what I have read, she is a judge. But, I have never seen a real judge treat a party with the contempt that she exhibits on each and every one of her shows. She always compares her intelligence with the party whom she dislikes, and as Gibran states: Do not compare yourself with others, for always there will be those who are greater and lesser than yourself.

Judy has a serious mental problem and sets an extremely bad example for judges to follow.

Each show is introduced with the statement: You are about to enter the courtroom of Judge Judith Sheindlin. The people are real. The cases are real. The rulings are final. This is her courtroom. This is Judge Judy.

I cant stand her though. I know if I was in her court and she tried to belittle me I would end up by telling her off and then I would lose my case....haha

Yes I think she used to be a real judge and a real *****. Oh that mouth! But sometimes she does calm down and uses legal terms and seems to know the law. She seems to know a lot about the cases before the "show" starts. But her mouth! She just screams and screams. Someone should shoot her. I hate that show.

She used to be a judge in family court in New York, The cases are real...kinda, the parties have agreed to her arbitrating their cases. Instead of going to small claims court. She has no legal standing otherwise.

yes to all.

Now then, the encouragement for the people to appear is that the advertisers of the show(s) on the networks actually pay for the settlements, fines, or penalties!

I enjoy them all, because they re-enforce all the proper rules your mother tried to teach you! Maybe now, in the guise of entertainment, you'll pay attention, and learn!
