People who are happy and content in their lives are harder to convert than people who are seeking relief from something, be it poverty, pain, emotional hurt, whatever. When people have such trouble in their life and their current religion does nothing to relieve it, a religion that promises that they will be happier and have a purpose in their life is easily accepted. And EVERY religion promises your life will be better with their religion and everyone else's religion is wrong....kind of like used car salesmen :>)

Not only in India, many parts of the world this has become a norm - In Africa and parts of Asia etc. I believe that this is because the missionaries know that they do not have a chance with the rich - why ? Because the rich are more educated and they cannot be bought over for 100 dollars. The poor unfortunately most are un educated too - so it is easier for them to cause fear in their poor minds and give some money, which would eliminate the hesitance they have - Hey presto - You got your self a Christian. If you study the patterns carefully, it is more Tamils (who more are in to Paganism) who get converted than Buddhists or Hindus.

Because the poor have the greatest need for something to believe in, to give them hope. That is what Christianity does. They tend to understand just how a real relationsihp with God can give them hope and comfort. The mainstream religions in India are not meeting a need they have, and Christians reach out to them.
In response to the person who cited about the Tamils. Perhaps the mystical beliefs meet their needs better. After all, is that religion about helping others or simply meeting your own needs?

i think those who convert are really the one who are not stable in what they preach.. they cant belong to one religion.. they do not have enough faith to the lord be it in any religion
the converts are the people who have been expecting something from the lord and they pray so that they can get something in return.. as if their wish is not fulfilled, they are pissed off.. they deny the lord they were praying earlier.. then they look in for others..
now they are not only the poor who do so.. the rich or the middle class also do so..
how sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
Perhaps a tendency because there actually are more poor people than rich anyway...lol...
But also, yes, there is a verse in the bible that mentions that rich people may have little chance to go in heaven... because they will save their money first..., but that is not always so....
Basically, convertion to christianity is to follow Christ in his
words an his ways.... Peace was his way.....

Its a misconception and misleading data fed by Hindu Fundamentalists. Its all non-sense. Conversion is not done by giving money or gifts. People who find that Jesus offers forgiveness of sins and the assurance of salvation without doing all the penance, convert to Christianity. There are many rich people of all castes who convert to Christianity to find Jesus. Don't be misled by useless propaganda
