There is a place called Burslem in Stoke-on-Trent. It is one of the five towns of the Potteries. Many of the famous pottery brands had factories there, Doulton, Wedgewood etc.
It is also home to Port Vale FC.

A quick look on 'ancestry' shows the name very common in Lancashire, Staffordshire & Cheshire in the late 1800's, hope this helps.
